DHL SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTIONKeytotheDHLSupplyChainsolutionwastheuseofshared-userwarehousingfacilities.Collaboratingwithlargerclientsofthesiteandcross-trainingDHLSupplyChainstaffenabledtheshortburstsofactivityrequiredforfoursparepartsdespatchesadaytoberuninacost-effectiveway.

Inaddition,thespreadofexistingDHLSupplyChaindistributioncentersinanygivencountryorregionenabledtheoptimumlocationforlocalsparepartsdeliverytoaclusterofservicecenters.ThelocationswerechosenusingDHLSupplyChain’sextensiverouteplanninganddesignexpertiseusingamilkrunroundtriptominimisetransportationmileage.

Tofacilitateshared-useDHLSupplyChainworkedcloselywiththemanufacturertoensureselectedmembersoftheexistingwarehouseteamwerecomprehensivelytrainedonthenewoperationalrequirements.Thisbenefittedbothclientsinthecollaborationbycreatingamulti-skilledworkforcethatcouldbedrawnintomeetfluctuationsindemand,includingtheburstsofactivityrequiredtodespatchsparepartsuptofourtimesaday.DHLSupplyChainreconfiguredpartofthewarehousetoprovideaflexiblesolutionthatincludedreceipt,putaway,pickanddespatch.
