Application of Lorentz transformation in High energy
physics
Barnett
Why used in particle physics?
• The transformations describe how measurements related to events in space and time by two observers, in inertial frames moving at constant velocity with respect to each other, are related.

• If the velocity of object is far slower than speed of light, the results of two transformation are approximately the same.
• Galilean transformation does not consider the speed of light into calculation.
• So in particle physics, particles are moving almost at the speed of light, that’s the reason why we have to use Lorentz instead of Galilean to decrease uncertainty.
After we did Lorentz transformation to 2000 dataset, it is obvious that all the plotting are symmetrical to plotting of another muon. Lorentz transformation changes the lab frame to the rest frame so that muons in every events will be back to back and have same momentum.
