1/2
Travis Releford,
Senior Guard
I Releord were Popeye, then
the Sprint Center would be his
spinach. The senior had his best
two games o the season in Kan-
sas City and ound his shooting
stroke the last time he played in
the building, knocking down 6-10
3-point attempts, ending a 0-11
cold streak he started out the sea-
son on.
Roberto Nelson Junior Guard
Nelson completes the backcourt or
the Beavers. In his three years at OSU,
Nelson has made 64 appearance, av-
eraging 8.8 points per game. Last year,
Nelson came o the bench in all 36
games. His hot scoring perormance
in the Pac-12 tournament last season,
scoring 19 in the Beavers seminal
game against Arizona, could be a sign o
whats to come.
Elijah Johnson, Senior Guard
While hes still averaging
double-digit point totals on the
season, Johnson has struggled at
times with the transition rom the
two-guard to the guy responsible
or running the Jayhawk oense.
Johnson has struggled to get to the
ree-throw line this season, mak-
ing just seven trips in six games.

Jeff Withey, Senior Center
By his own admission, Withey
doesnt like playing against smaller
lineups such as the one he will ace
tonight at Oregon State. Unortu-
nately or him, not every team he
plays against will line up another
seven-ooter or him to go against,
and hell have to learn to get in bet-
ter positions to deend smaller or-
wards.

Withey Burton
Joe Burton Senior Center
Burton is the leader o the rontcourt.
The 6-oot-7 295-pound center scored
21 points alongside rebounds last
week against Montana State. Burton
gives the Beavers a physical post
presence that likes to play back to the
basket oense and positions himsel
well or rebounds on the other end. I
Burton can push the smaller Jayhawk
post players o the block, he could
have a solid statline.

YoungReld
Kevin Young, Senior Forward
Young brings the most energy to the
our-spot on the foor, but hell have
to be an active rebounder to compete
with the Oregon State bigs on the o-ensive glass to keep them occupied so
they cant ignore him and double-team
Withey.
Ben McLemore,
Freshman Guard
McLemore will need to attack the
basket more against Oregon St. than
he has in the past in order to open
up the foor or his teammates more,
as he will already draw the Beavers
attention with his talent. But with his
roo-raising dunks, McLemore would
play incredible even i he were wear-
ing his granddads clothes.
Eric Moreland,
Sophomore Forward
Moreland redshirted his rst sea-
son at Oregon State ater suering a
season-ending let shoulder injury our
games into the 2010-11 season. In his
last outing against Montana State,
Moreland recorded a double-double
with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mo-
reland is hoping or a breakout season
ater recovering rom the injury to play
in 36 games last season.
Jarmal Reid, Freshman Forward
Reid is one o the players Beavers
coach Craig Robinson hopes will step
up in the absence o star orward Angus
Brandt. Hes played 35 minutes in therst our games, averaging 1.5 points
per game and 1 rebound per game. Reid
was ranked 73rd in ESPNUs class o
2012 prospect list. While getting his rst
big minutes, look or Reid to struggle.
Ahmad Starks Junior Guard
Starks isnt araid to shoot the ball.
Against Montana State, he shot 5-o-16
with 14 points. Starks nds ways to get
to the basket and in turn the ree throw
line. Hes also a solid rebounding guard.
His experience, playing in 35 games last
season or the Beavers, will help solidiy
the backcourt and eed the post players
that run this team.

Senior center Joe Burton
Burton has to
step up or Oregon
State to compete
this season. Bur-
ton is a big body
who enjoys play-
ing with his back
to the basket. His
solid deense and rebounding stats ft
the mold or this OSU team. I Burton
can get position inside and slow down
the quicker orwards o Kansas he could
have a solid night.
Freshman forward Jamari Traylor
Traylors size
and athleticism
will be needed on
the post against
the bigger Oregon
State lineup he
will ace on Friday.
He still has trouble
adjusting to the college game and con-
sistently making his presence elt, but
when he puts it all together hell add a
dangerous component o the bench or
the Jayhawks.

Traylor Burton
No. 10 Kansas (5-1) played its best
basketball o the season in the CBE
Classic games at the Sprint Center
but still has struggled to put together
a complete game on the oensive side
o the ball all season. Twice in their
game against San Jose State on Monday
they jumped out to leads only to see the
Spartans come back as the Jayhawk o-
ense went cold. They got away with it
against San Jose State on Monday, but
wont against the tougher competition
rom major conerences.
Oregon State (4-1) emphasizes post
play with a solid crop o rontcourt play-
ers. The recent loss o 6-oot-10 senior
center Angus Brandt puts the ocus on
center Joe Burton. Ater a career night
against the Montana State Bobcats,
Burton appears to be ready or the chal-
lenge. OSU is averaging seven more
rebounds than their opponents, a stat
that doesnt bode well or the Jayhawks
struggling rontcourt.

You would think hed have a littlemore juice making recruiting calls over
the last our years and the next our
years than most college coaches would. I
wonder i he introduces himsel as coach
Robinson or Im the presidents brother-

Its a big loss because Angus is a bigpart o the team. He brings a lot o en-
ergy, even o the court. Eric (Moreland),
Devon (Collier), Jarmal (Reid) and I have
to step up and make up or the rebounds
and points. He was a double-double guy
and we have to spread out the points and
go hard. It was kind o weird without him
by my side running down the court.

The Jayhawks consistently attack the
rim all night, preventing the oensive
droughts that have plagued them at
times this season.
Oregon State plays a more physi-
cal game than Kansas in the paint.
With rebounders like Burton, Moreland
and Starks, OSU can produce plenty o
second chance opportunities. I the Jay-hawks dont box out, the Beavers will
cause trouble in the paint.
BABy JAy will cry if...
tYLeR RoSte/KANSANFreshman Jamari Traylor jumps to shoot over St. Louis deenders. The Jayhawks won the championship game against St. Louis with a fnal score o 73-59.
