our bread and butter all seasonlong going through our duals and Igive each one of those guys achance to go in and wrestle a goodmatch, keep things close and pulloff the upset.”

Yankton’s other eight wrestlerswill have a chance today (Friday)to make it to state as the top 4wrestlers at region will go on toAberdeen.

Hage said the wrestlers on theteam wrestling for third and fourthwill be just as important as thewrestlers going in the finals.

“Those guys who were on theback side of the bracket werewrestling hard tonight,” he said. “A

lot of points in a tournament arescored on the backside and youare wrestling for your life on thebackside.”

Just like Yankton, Vermillionhas six wrestlers in the regionsfinals — TJ North (112), LanceBurkhart (135), Tanner Mart (160),Chris Mart (171), Nick Mart (189)and Gerrit Heine (215).

Even with the same amount ofwrestlers in the finals as Yankton,Delvaux said one of ways Vermillionlost points was because of the num-ber of byes the team had.

“What hurt us is we had threewrestlers who basically byed theirway into the semifinals, so that’stwo rounds that they didn’t haveto score points,” he said. “Thoseare high ranked kids, so not hav-ing them wrestle and scoringpoints hurt us, but at the sametime, we won those matches in thesemifinals.”

Delvaux said the team still hasa lot to do going into the final day.

“I think our day could’ve gonebetter and now we have a couplebig rounds coming up,” he said.“We have a couple kids who arenew and young. We are going to gohome and get some rest, comeback and score some points.”

Following Yankton andVermillion is Sioux Falls Lincolnwith 99 points, who have a slightlead over Sioux Falls Washington(92). Harrisburg is close behindthe Warriors with 88 points andWest Central is right behind theTigers with 83 points. BrandonValley leads Lennox for seventhwith 47 points to 41 and Tea Areais in ninth with 39.50 points.

Wrestling will resume today(Friday) in Brandon Valley’s gym at6 p.m.

In fact, Vermillion could gain several morepoints just by sticking their routines.

“We lost three and a half points at regionsbecause of falls,” Upward noted. “Add those in,and we’re hoping to be in the mix for sixth orseventh.”
