The courageto change
Move to new building in 2014
New ideas open new doors. We at Berlinger have lived by this maxim
ever since 1865 when Johann Georg Berlinger laid the foundation stone
of our company in the middle of the idyllic Toggenburg countryside – in
the form of a weaving mill. Today, the name Berlinger is synonymous
with innovative technology in the temperature monitoring and medi-
cal sectors and internationally standardised doping control systems.
We, the sixth generation of the Berlinger family, are proud to carry on
the values and traditions of our family business, the most important of
these are openness, quality and fairness.
Each and every day we invest in our values, people and sustainable pro-
cesses: more specifically, we are investing in our future.
This is what our forefathers did and so this is what we continue to do.
"Tradition meets innovation" sums up the strengths that have stayed
with us for generations. We foresee change, are receptive to it and re-
spond creatively to the process of change itself.
Berlinger – feel safe
Andrea Berlinger Schwyter and her hus-
band Daniel Schwyter -Berlinger, the sixth
generation of the Berlinger family, have
headed this international company since
2008. They have played an active role in
the restructure of the company from a
textile manufacturing company to a mod-
ern technology company. Today our fam-
ily-centered business culture is an impor-
tant factor for Berlinger's success.
Andrea Berlinger Schwyter, CEO and President
Daniel Schwyter -Berlinger, CEO
"Time almost seems to stand still in the tranquil region of Toggenburg, with its chiming bells and air filled with bird-song. For Berlinger, however, time keeps moving forward: the company's innovative power is highly prized all over the globe."
150 years of innovation and tradition
1865–1900: It all began with a weaving mill
Berlinger & Co. AG was set up in 1865 by Johann Jakob Ber-
linger (1813–1891) as a mechanical cotton weaving mill. His
son Johann Georg Berlinger (1841–1900) also had an active
working life as a high-ranking officer in the Swiss Army and
as a member of the Swiss Parliament.
1900–1959: The great fire and the war years
After the entire weaving mill burnt to the ground in 1902, it
fell to Colonel Paul Berlinger (1875–1941), the grandson of
the company's founder, to find a new path. He did this un-
der extremely difficult circumstances as both the Depres-
sion and the First World War took place during his time in
business.
Max Berlinger (1911–1986), the fourth generation of the
Berlinger family, followed his father and took the compa-
ny through the challenging years of the Second World War.
This creative man, who was also the inventor of bias tape,
gave the company a new lease on life and remained presi-
dent until 1972. He was well known as a businessman, poli-
tician and acted as mayor of his local area for many years,
while making a name for himself as a writer too.
1959–2008: The dawn of the modern age
Jürg Berlinger, who was twenty years old at the time, was
responsible for the company's rapid growth from 1959. To-
gether with his wife Liselotte Berlinger-Zäch, he diversified
the business and led it safely through the textile industry
crisis of the seventies and eighties. Further diversification
took place in 1972 under the technical leadership of Karl
Egli. One of the milestones in this process of diversification
was the company's entry into the world of temperature
monitoring by making simple chemical indicators for WHO
and UNICEF vaccination campaigns. A further milestone
came in 1994 with the invention of safety closures for urine
and blood samples of competitive athletes. Trusted by over
120 countries, the success of the BEREG-KIT continues to
this very day. Product development in these areas contin-
ued into 1999 when the company incorporated the most
up-to-date technology and laid the foundations for a new
technology company.

From 2008: Keeping pace with the
times
Today the sixth generation of the Ber-
linger company is headed by Andrea

worked in the company since the
nineties and are committed to the val-
ues exemplified by their prede-
cessors: openness to change and con-
tinued investment in the future.

Core capabilities
Reliable, end-to-end temperature mon-
itoring systems are essential when
transporting temperature-sensitive
goods, particularly when a number of
different companies are involved. Our
temperature monitoring systems pro-
vide the highest level of security for
the management of quality. These sys-
tems will give you concrete answers to
questions such as: What temperature
was the consignment exposed to dur-
ing transportation? Were the tempera-
ture limits breached while the goods
were being loaded? How long were the
goods stored at temperatures falling
below or above the optimal tempera-
ture for the goods?
Berlinger's elegant software solutions
allow our customers to integrate rel-
evant results into their ERP. They can
also use our data management system
with its innovative SMS alarm system
via an integrated GSM module, as well
as clearly laid out reporting and statis-
tical monitoring functions. Let the data

There's a good reason why Swiss
clocks are associated with punc-
tuality and precision, and here at
Berlinger, the technology we use to
manufacture our temperature mon-
itoring equipment also has its origins
in the clock making industry. When
Berlinger was operating as a weav-
ing mill, our forefathers also needed
a high degree of precision and re-
liability to manufacture delicate,
high-quality fabrics such as Jacquard
voile.
Quality is in the genes
Berlinger has at its disposal a compet-
ent, efficient quality control depart-
ment and has been implementing a
philosophy of "lean thinking" since
2013. In the first stage of this process,
production processes were analysed
and redeployed across new, modern
production sites. All processes were
reviewed according to the concept of
"muda" (waste), and today our pro-
cesses are designed to operate with
the highest level of efficiency and
clarity, guaranteeing the quality that
Berlinger has become known for.
Our highly innovative product devel-
opments, which are the cornerstone
of our competitive power, conform
to the guidelines set out in GAMP 5,
a well-known quality management
process. Berlinger also holds ISO 9001
and 14001 certification, whilst a ro-
bust training program ensures that
our staff is always kept up-to-date
with the very latest developments
in the sector. The entire company is
structured around the concept of
quality, which is one of our core com-
petencies.
Technologyguarantees high quality
"Berlinger has at its disposal a competent, efficient quality as-surance department."
People are central to the Berlinger Group
The framework for Berlinger's contin-
ued development is based on quality
and places people at the center. A sta-
ble framework offers our customers,
suppliers and staff the security they
need. Space to evolve and develop as
well as the freedom to perform at
their very best while being creative.
This is exactly the kind of security
that should be offered in partner-
ships with customers, suppliers and
staff.
After all, this is the kind of security
that will create the sustainable ap-
proach that we believe enables us to
develop and grow towards the future.
In the long run, the secret lies in the
trust that we develop in one another
– and this is something that only peo-
ple can do. This is how intricate net-
works are formed. We are 100% com-
mitted to our customers: their high
standards drive us forward and this,
in turn, motivates our staff and sup-
pliers.
We are happy to be able to call on the
support of so many within this com-
plex network and are also proud of
the fact that so many place their trust
in Berlinger and our products. We find
new ways to engage with each other
on a daily basis, searching for con-
structive solutions to challenges of all
shapes and sizes: everyone has a role
to play and does so according to the
motto "You can count on me!"
"Security givesyou the space to evolve and develop, as well as the free-dom to perform at your very best."
People are central to the Berlinger Group
We stand by this commitment and
have maintained it for generations.
Berlinger is a reliable provider of
products that are used in sensitive sit-
uations: this has been made possible
because the people we work with live
the concepts of security, confidence
and reliability each and every day.
Sustainability for our future
Our company has always been con-
cerned about the environment and
using resources responsibly. Our next
step was to use an environmental
management system (EMS) to main-
tain this approach and develop it in a
more structured fashion.
In April 2013 our EMS obtained ISO
14001 certification and could there-
fore be integrated into our existing
QM system. The environment already
plays an important role in our product
development phase, allowing us to
take our goal for sustainable produc-
tion into consideration at an early
stage. We are also proud to have con-
structed the first factory building in
Switzerland to use an ice heating sys-
tem, a development that has brought
our goal of achieving the highest-
possible level of sustainability just
that much closer.
