BackgroundA problem in the current loading process of the pilot filters is creating a
safety hazard to workers, costing Blue Water excessive money, and time.
Blue Water Technologies Inc. asked team Pump IT! to design an appropriate method to charge their BluePro pilot treatment filters.

Constraints DeliverablesDesign and prototype a
bladeless pump capable of pumping sand
•Fabricate a bladeless pump•Validate the pump’s efficacy•Produce head curves•Recommend further measures to scale pump as necessary

Conclusions Recommendations
Pump is effective at moving slurries
Design is easy to manufacture
Streamline exit nozzle entrance with housing to reduce turbulent flow
Use more durable housing materials
Use a motor with at least 0.45 Hp to reach desired height
Reduce disc thickness to increase flow and reduce weight
Increase disc inlet area to increase flow and reduce frictional losses
Pumping slurry
