Thank you to everyone who made this year's ice cream social a success. We not only had our usual
ice cream, desserts and drinks, along with cake walks, but also enjoyed the music of a quartet sang.
Mark Noller, also played for our cake walks. It was a good time for all in attendance. The grand total
was $506 with $316 from ticket sales, and $190 from the cake walks. This covered all of our
mission pledge for the year. Without all who donated, worked and attended this would not have
been possible. Thank you so much for inviting your friends, your dedication and support.

From Robert’s Round Table As I write to you we are still in the process of cleaning up from another successful Cruise Night for Blessings in a Backpack River Valley Communities. Despite heat and humidity throughout the day people came out to enjoy sunny skies and to support a great cause. We raised over $780 during the 3 hour event which added to our sponsorships will bring us close to $3200 for BIB RVC with another Cruise Night to be held on August 9th. Thanks to all who volunteered and donated for the event and especially our Cruise Night Team: Bill Cheffer, Jerry Colbert, James Bushey, Chris Robins, George Pfeffinger & Peggy Wilking. As you know Joshua, Nicholas and I recently attended the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indianapolis, IN. During the Assembly we elected and installed the Rev. Dr. Terri Owens, pastor of First Christian of Downers Grove, IL and Dean of Disciples Divinity House at the University of Chicago as General Minister & President, the first African-American woman to lead a major denomination. I am privileged to know and to have worked with Rev. Owens at our regional church level in recent years and am excited for her leadership of our general church. We also recommitted to our 2020 Vision of beginning 1000 new congregations by 2020 and learned we have established over 975 and are well on our way to our goal. We received the reports of our many General Ministries and heard the stories of a thriving church across the continent and the globe. We resolved together to support refugees, urging congregations to become “immigrant welcoming” and to repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery, which has deemed native peoples of non-European descent as less than fully human and led to centuries of oppression in the name of Christian progress. There were many other items of business which may be found online at ga.disciples.org/business. We were moved and inspired by excellent preaching and worship experiences. And, I enjoyed reconnecting with many members of my Disciples family. I am grateful for those who covered my Sunday morning responsibilities while I was away, especially Kelly Youngblood who served as our Pulpit Guest. In the July 1 edition I invited you to submit questions for our upcoming Sermon Series entitled You Asked for It! I have received several great questions and am hoping to incorporate many into the series. The questions cover the nature of God, the church, Biblical interpretation and spirituality. We will begin with Is Christian Unity Possible? on July 23rd followed by How Do We Receive Salvation? on July 30th. In
August we will ask how do we decide which parts of the Bible to read literally and which to read metaphorically, what is the truth about Noah’s Ark, how does our faith relate to capitalism and are ghosts real? Whew! I’ve got some serious work to do and I’m grateful for the challenge of exploring these questions with you in worship. If your question is not listed it does not mean it will not be addressed, many of the topics above will combine several submitted questions. I do hope you will join me in this journey along with your inquisitive friends! This weekend I celebrate the 20th anniversary of my ordination into Christian ministry in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It is hard to believe that I finished my Master of Divinity degree two decades ago and shared with you in worship and celebration of my call to serve the Lord. I continue to be humbled by the awesome opportunities and responsibilities of serving Christ’s church. And, since many of my colleagues who have retired had recently celebrated 40 years as an ordained minister, I guess I’m half-way there! It is good to know that should my health and stamina remain intact, I may have many more years of ministry to try and get it right. I am grateful for our shared ministry through Central Christian Church and for the love I know to be genuine and real in this congregation!
Peace & Joy, Rev. Robert Bushey, Jr.
