I am proud to be a volunteer at Bolton CVS. Volunteering is often a hidden benefit to the local community, country or the world. But with each person that is helped or each volunteer that gains from volunteering the value is something that when actually tallied makes such a huge contribution in general.

At first I did not know what volunteering meant, I mean doing something for no financial gain? Just because you have an interest or passion in it?This at first was something I thought did not exist widely and now I cannot see my life without some form of volunteering in it. The people I have met through volunteering and the joy that I have experienced is something that will live with me for life.

Bolton Hospice is not just a building, it is a way of caring for people. Their care aims to improve the lives of people whose illness may not be curable.

We help people to live as actively as possible after diagnosis to the end of their lives, however long that might be.

The short session will provide a whistle stop tour of community fundraising including an exercise to consider how you can use your valuable time to raise more money.

Kathryn Sheldon is the Fundraising Manager at Bolton Hospice which involves managing their community, legacy and trust fundraising.

Thousands of people offer their time, passion and skills in Bolton to make a positive difference every day. As people living, working, learning and playing in Bolton, we all have a role to play in making things better and ‘doing more good’ for our family, friends, neighbours and community.

As the Chief Executive of Bolton CVS, I spend a lot of my time surprising and inspiring people with information about the amazing size and life-changing impact of community action across the borough.

Not only do the individuals, the groups and those organisations that host volunteers change lives, they enable people to take control of things for themselves which has a lasting and positive effect.

Getting involved in your community will have a positive impact on your wellbeing, connect you to others, help you gain new skills and give you the opportunity to show off your existing ones.

For me, the Bolton CVS Voluntary Sector Roadshow is just one way to inspire more people to give something back to the place and community within which they live and to celebrate those that already do.

Regardless of your skills, passion or whether you’ve got 1 hour or much more to offer, there’s plenty for you to do on your doorstep #GetInvolvedBolton.

Darren Knight, Chief Executive at Bolton CVS
