From the Border fabric, cut the following rectangles:(2) 5 ½” x 30 ½” (side borders)
(2) 4” x 30 ½” (upper and lower borders)
From Square 1 and 3 fabrics, cut three 5” squares.
From Square 2 fabric, cut four 5” squares.
Cutthebindingfabricintofive2½”xWOFstrips;piecetogetheralongtheshortendstocreateonelongstrip.Foldoneshortend¼”towardthewrongside;press.Pressthestripinhalflengthwisewithwrongsidestogether;setaside.
BINDINGStep 1Piecetogetherthebindingstripsusingdiagonal45 ̊1/4”-wideseams.Placetwofabricstripsata90 ̊anglewithrightsidestogether;trimtheendsata45 ̊angle.
Step 2 Position the ends to allow for a 1/4” seam allowance.

Step 3 Marktheseamallowanceusingaremovablefabricmarker.
Stitch along the line.
Step 4 Pressopentheseam,andthentrimthecornerpointsflushwiththebindinglongedges.

Step 5 Repeattostitcheachbindingstripuntilyouhaveonelongstrip.Trimonestripendata45 ̊angle.Foldthatend1/4”towardthewrongside;press.
Step 6 Foldthebindinginhalflengthwisewithwrongsidestogether;press.
Step 7 Stitchthebindingtothequilt-top,beginningatthelower-edgecenterandleaving4”ofbindingfreeatthebeginning (folded angled end) and end. Miter the corners as you reach them.
Step 8 Insertthestraightbindingendintotheangledbindingend;trimthestraightend¼”beyondthebeginningfoldline. Pin the remaining binding long edge to the quilt top. Finish the binding stitching.
Step 9 Wrapthebindingfoldededgetowardthequilt-topbacking;pinorclipgenerously,ensuringthecornersretaintheirmiters.Reservethebindingforthelaststep.

PeelthepaperbackingawayfromaStickʼnStitchtemplate,andthenplaceitrightsideupontooneSquare 1 fabric square.

RepeattostickaStickʼnStitchtemplatetoeachfabricsquare
HandembroidereachdesignbystitchingthroughtheStickʼnStitchandfabric.Usewhateverhandembroidery stitches you like, referring to the Hand Stitching Guide for how-tos. Choose thread colors based on the fabric, bringing in coordinating colors from the backing fabric for interest.
WhenusingtheSulkyCottonPetitesthread,onestrandequalstwostrandsoftraditionalembroideryfloss,sokeepthatinmindwhenplanningthedesign.Weaveallthreadtailsintothestitchingonthesquarewrongsidestoavoidbumpyknots.

Fusea5”squareofSulkyTenderTouchtoeachembroideredsquarewrongsidetoensurelongevityofthestitching through washing and wear.
PlacethefabricpiecesonaflatworksurfaceinorderaccordingtotheQuilt Diagram.
Piece the quilt top according to the Piecing Diagram.

Presseachseamtowardthetopbackgroundfabric.BecarefultonotusesteamtoavoiddamagingthehandembroideredsquaresthatstillhaveStickʼnStitchintact.
QUILTINGPlacetheBackingfabricwrongsideuponaflatworksurface.Centerthebattingoverthebacking;useKK2000tosecurethebatting.Placethequilttoprightsideupoverthebatting;useKK2000tosecure.Ifnotquiltingrightaway,thread-orpin-bastethequiltinseveralareastoavoidshiftingwhentheKK2000dissipates.
Quiltasdesired.ThefeaturedquiltwasquiltedwitharepeatingcomputerizeddesignovertheTopBackground, piano quilted along the border and quilted in the ditch around each embroidered square.
Trimthequiltsotheedgesareeven.
BINDINGUsingthereservedbinding,pinthefoldedendtothequiltlower-edgecenter,matchingtherawedges.Begin stitching 4” from the folded end, mitering the corners as you reach them.
Atthebindingbeginning,overlaptherawbindingendwiththefoldedend;pinandthentrim½”beyondthefold. Continue stitching the binding long edge to the quilt.
Wrapthebindingaroundthequiltedge;pinorclipgenerously,makingsurethemitersareretainedateachcorner. Hand sew the binding fold to the quilt backing using 50 wt. cotton thread.
FINISHINGWashthequiltinwarmwateronadelicatecycletoremovetheStickʼnStitch.Airdry.
