FROM DARREN COLBURN— MENS PRESIDENT
TIGER TURF UPDATE
All,
I spoke with Graeme Blow this morning and Buderim club is scheduled to be commenced July/August assuming the restrictions are lifted in Queensland in July.
I have advised Graeme that there is flexibility to begin the work later (early October commencement date) if the warmer weather aids with carpet stretching etc.
From his experience the Queensland winter weather is mild enough to allow the carpet to be properly laid.
Graeme will review his schedule and contact the club again when the date for opening borders is confirmed.
regards
Brian Heinemann
Currently we are in discussions with SCDMBA regarding the finer points of what is and
is not allowed in regard to Social Bowls. The outcome of these discussions could
dictate the livelihood of not only Buderim Bowls Club but many other clubs struggling
with the loss of income due to the stance taken by Bowls Queensland.

LOCAL LEGENDS WANTED. BY AIDAN DAVIS
Bowls Australia (BA) has unveiled a new national marketing campaign, entitled Local Legends Wanted, aimed at increasing participation in the sport and improving club health by calling on individuals to join their local bowls club.
The campaign, which was released ahead of summer, during a broadcast of the World Bowls Challenge event, is reaching out to those looking for a team sport that’s not as physically-demanding in comparison to sports such as football and netball.
The target audience for the campaign, created by specialist sports marketing agency Ballpark, is primarily men and women aged in their 30s to 50s who have enjoyed team sport throughout their lives but are looking for their next sport to play in or something more kind on their body, whilst still offering a competitive challenge. FROM THE LADIES GAMES DIRECTOR
The Ladies committee held a meeting today, Tuesday 16th June, 2020, and taking guidance from the men’s club, we can commence Social Bowls as from next Tuesday, 23rd June, 2020, with a few precautions, all in the name of safety, listed below.
Until Stage 3 restrictions are lifted (expected around 12th July) we are only allowed four players on a rink, and 20 players on each Green, so that means we can accommodate up to 40 players. So for the last two weeks of June (23rd and 30th) and the first two weeks in July (7th and 14th) we plan to play 3 Bowl Pairs, Club selected.
To be able to play you must Register your name on the Buderim Bowls Club website (www.buderimbowls.com.au) under the new Tab entitled Bowls Game Bookings, and follow the prompts listing your name, phone number, email address (if you have one) and membership number. We will need your name by 10.00 a.m. on Game Day.
If any ladies are having trouble doing this please ring me and I will register your name for you. My phone number is 0411 361 341.
On game day we ask that you pay your green Fees of $15 by Eftpos Card – cash is seen to be easily infected.

You will find the Ladies Lounge area is different –again Safety First. If you wish to se-lect a book from the Library we are quite happy for you to do this, but ask that you do not return it!! Otherwise we will have to sanitise every book!!
Those players wishing to still have Rollups, please check the website under the COVID-19 Roll Ups Tab to see what times are available.

Interesting facts and Jokes Page
Coaches Corner
Last week we talked about why so many of us play lawn bowls. Some of the results from the
survey conducted by La Trobe University were quite interesting and we can all relate to them.
So where to from here? Because it’s been such a long time since we have played a game of
bowls, I thought it might be a good opportunity to review some of the components which make
us good bowlers. Let’s start with our position on the mat.
Direction the feet point during delivery.
I cannot stress the importance of the direction in which you stand on the mat. The biggest
cause of inconsistency many bowlers make is to stand on the mat with their feet pointing in a
direction other than the line the bowl travels. The results are they deliver the bowl with their
arm travelling across or away from their body and it is difficult to maintain a consistent delivery
unless the arm travels parallel to the direction pointing in the direction the bowl will travel.
Stance – squareness of the body in relation to the feet.
Ideally the shoulders and hips should be square to the feet at all times during the delivery. The
reason why? Because if either the hips or shoulders are pointed away from the square position
the bowl will travel in that direction resulting in a “fat” or “skinny “ result. When taking position
on the mat, the ideal stance is to place the “step” foot next to and parallel to the “plant foot
with the instep next to the knuckle of the big toe on the plant foot.
Delivery Technique Stand on or behind the mat, look at the distance to the jack and swing the bowling arm with the bowl in hand 3 or 4 times to estimate the weight needed to reach the jack or target. Then place your anchor foot in the line the bowl will travel and crouch as low as possible with the heel of the stepping foot alongside the ankle of the anchor foot. In delivering the bowl, swing the arm back in an arc and as it comes (slowly) forward take a normal walking step (straight out in front) and release the bowl as close as possible to the ground and 8 to 10 cms in front of the stepping foot. Lastly, stay down in this po-sition until the bowl travels at least half way to the target. “Know” the Type and Amount of Adjustment/s to be made Top bowlers, like other elite sportspeople, automatically make the necessary adjustments to rectify a less than perfect bowl because they have an innate, or natural instinct, more common-ly called “ball sense” or “eye/hand co-ordination”. Thus, they “know” what they need to do and don’t have to think about the solution. Over-thinking adjustments causes many bowlers un-necessary stress resulting in anxiety or even panic. The result is that they “rush” the next shot and don’t achieve the result they seek. Most of you are probably saying, “Why is he writing about the basics which I already know”? From a coach’s perspective, no one is perfect and to just review what should be done, will help you once we all get bowling, again.

Workouts For Seniors Who Want To Regain Their Youth - part 6 of 11 Knee Lifts With A Medicine Ball
EXERCISES FOR HOME
Knee lifts using either a light or heavy weight, such as a medicine ball or dumbbells, is a fantastic way for seniors to work on their upper body endurance as well as their balance and stability. Doing this move is quite simple. First, hold a light weight or medicine ball, about two to five pounds, in both hands right above your head. Then, lift your right knee up to your waist while slowly bringing down your arms and touching the weight or medicine ball to your knee. Lower your knee and return your arms in the starting position with the weight or ball above your head. Repeat these steps for the other knee, alternating sides and continue doing this exercise for thirty to sixty seconds.
If you want to ramp up the intensity, you can speed up your movement while still maintaining control of the weight and your body, while remaining balanced, and lifting your knees as high as possible. To make this exercise easier, you can simply use no weight at all or just hold an appropriate weight at chest level as you lift your knees. If you have knee or back problems, you can avoid the upper body movement of this exercise and just do knee lifts.
