Boxelder Bugs Keep Boxelders out of Your Home With These
Tips
Nuisance Pests
There are pests that are dangerous
to your home and family, then
there are pests that are nothing
more than a nuisance. Boxelder
bugs are in this category. More an
annoyance than a problem, you
still don’t want them crawling
around in your home.
What Are They?
If you’re not familiar with boxelder bugs, it’s important to know exactly what you’re dealing with. These bugs are typically about a half-inch in length and they often have black bodies. You’ll see red or orange markings along their backs, and they have wings. They’re attracted to light, so you may see them flocking toward the lights in your home.
How Are They Getting In?
Boxelder bugs don’t
actually reproduce
inside your home.
Instead, they’ll sneak
in through a torn
screen, under a door
threshold, or through
a crack or gap in the
siding.
Can I Actually Keep Them
Out?
Keeping boxelder bugs from coming in is possible, but it
takes quite a bit of work on your part. You’ll need to seal
around pipes and wires coming into the home, seal up
any holes you may have in the siding or foundation, and
do some careful landscaping to keep them away from the
house.
The Vacuum Is Your
Friend
If you begin to notice several
boxelder bugs in your home,
one of the best ways to get rid
of them quickly is to vacuum
them up. Be sure to dump the
canister or bag outside
immediately after you’ve
completed the task.

bugs, your best course of action is to contact a pest control
company who can help. They can not only deal with the
