Brief Industrial Profile of Dholpur District
1. General Characteristics of the District
Dholpur is a district of Rajasthan State located in the western part of India.
It was carved out of Bharatpur district and created on 15.04.1982. The
town of Dholpur is the district headquarter of Dholpur District having a
territorial area of 3034 Sq.km. The Chambal River forms the southern
boundary of the district, across which lies the state of Madhya Pradesh.
The district is bounded by the state of Uttar Pradesh on the east and
Bharatpur District of Rajasthan on the northwest, and Karauli District of
Rajasthan on the west. All along the bank of the Chambal River, the
district is deeply intersected by ravines; low ranges of hills in the western
portion of the district supply quarries of fine-grained and easily worked
red sandstone.
1.1 Location & Geographical Area.
Dholpur district extends from 26d 22m to 25d 70m north latitude and from 76d 53m to 76d 17m east longitude. It is bounded on the north east by Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. On the south by Morena district( Madhya Pradesh) and on the north of Bharatpur district( Rajasthan). The total area of Dholpur district is 300898 sq. hectares.
1.2 Topography
Range of sand stone hills runs from Dholpur town to south western
direction attaining at one place an altitude of 356.91 metres above sea level.
The land in Dholpur district is fertile and rises from alluvial plain near the
level. Hills and broken grounds characterize almost the whole territory,
along the valley of Chambal as irregular and lofty wall of rocks separates
the land on the river from the uplands. The climate of Dholpur district is
generally dry. Dholpur town is one of the hottest places in Rajasthan state
with maximum temperature rising up to 500 C and the minimum upto 40 C.
The average annual rain fall in the district is about 67cm.

1.3 Availability of Minerals.
The mineral wealth the district is comprised of sand stone & limestone. The significant part of Dholpur and Rajakhera sub-divisions are covered
by the alluvium of Chambal valley. Vidhyanchal runs from Fatehpur Sikari
towards Hindaun, where there is huge deposit of sand stone. The sandstone
has been used as building material for many centuries. Among its varieties,
one is the dark – red with yellowish – white spots and another is yellowish
–white spots. Another major mineral in the district is lime stone.
