WHAT IS THE PSSA TEST ALL ABOUT?
•All school districts are required by Pennsylvania to determine school and
district proficiency in the PA Common Core State Standards in English
Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science (8th gr. only).
•These standards reflect important skills essential for all students to
demonstrate their understanding.
THE “NEWLY REVISED” PSSA•The rigor is greater
•More READING required
•There is more content
•Additional application exercises
• Increase in Non-Fiction (reading and writing)
•All grades have a writing component
WHY PSSA TEST PREP?• Build everyday math knowledge and skills
• Improve student confidence and stamina
• Learn important testing strategies:
* working backwards
* crossing off the wrong answers before selecting
* highlighting important text and evidence
• Enhance student performance
Preparation is the Key for anything in life in order to be successful!
Including the Keystone Exams, High School Entrance Exams, SAT’s,
even your Driver’s License Exam
WHAT IS THE PSSA MATH TEST PREP?• 30 minutes per week on Tuesdays (beginning tomorrow)
•February through March (9 weeks)
•You will receive a grade specific Math packet
•Your Math teachers will monitor your progress and review solutions
during class
•Math Test Prep will take place during an extended homeroom
•One practice test per session (in testing conditions)
TESTING CONDITIONS
•Two teachers are assigned to each room.
• Students should come prepared with pencils, calculators, and a free
reading book.
• Students are expected to work on the packet during the entire “Math
Prep” period. No Disruptions!
•When you are dismissed to A period, you are to take your Math packet
with you.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS & SCIENCE
•All ELA prep will take place in English classes with additional prep
coming in the near future.
•ELA prep will also include Writing.
• 8th grade Science prep will take place in Science classes with
additional prep time coming in the near future.

ELA: APRIL 13TH - 17TH

MATH: APRIL 20TH – 24TH

8TH GRADE
ELA: APRIL 13TH -17TH
