Message from the Chair – Greetings Everyone!I am sometimes

annoyed whenpeople say, “Timejust keeps goingfaster and faster”.Well, I neverrealized just howfast Time flies

until all of a sudden it’s Time to writethe monthly column for the Advocateagain!As I write this, it’s Time for Unity

in the Community - February 26 from5:30 to 7:30 at the Plaza ConferenceCenter. I hope you were able totake advantage of this wonderfulopportunity to visit with our localofficials, regional elected officials andlegislators. Did you meet the manypeople who displayed informationabout their city, their business, theirnon-profit organization and many otheramazing endeavors throughout ourarea? If Time was against you and youwere unable attend this great event, Iwill cover some of the highlights in mynext report!Now, it’s Time to turn our attention

to the issues before the current StateLegislature and be watchful of thosematters that can affect our businessesin the area. The Chamber’s Public

Policy Committee (PPC) has reviewedand is currently monitoring threeBills. The first is House Bill 15-1154which prohibits the collection ofan Interchange Fee defined as a feeestablished by a payment card networkfor the purpose of compensating theissuer of a credit or debit card onthe portion of the total price that isa state or a local government tax.The PPC is also monitoring SenateBill 91 and House Bill 1057. Uponrecommendation from the PPC to theBoard of Directors, the Board hastaken a support position on Senate Bill177 which, if passed, will fix somebarriers to attainable and affordablehome ownership. The PPC also plans

to look at House Bill 1119 whichrequires municipalities that banhydraulic fracturing to pay royalties toowners of mineral rights. Stay tuned.Speaking of good Timing, the

Chamber Board of Directors, at itsmonthly meeting in February, weregiven an excellent presentationby Pinnacol Assurance insuranceregarding the value to Chambermembers of being in the Workmen’sCompensation Safety Group Programsponsored by our Chamber.
