OBE
Mike Carn awarded OBEHonorary chairman of CADS number 007,Mike Carn has been honoured with the OBE.(Read more in the Chairmans Report on Page 4).
How, you are wondering?
Simple.
Like the number 007 suggests, he has been both shaken andstirred my many in need during his time at the helm of the
good ship CADS.
Mike has given with his generous heart and his limited pocket to
a wide range of charities through CADS. Whatever CADS mem-
bers raised he always matched it, or at the very least, rounded
it off.
It has a been a great honour to know Mike over the years, and
occasionally work with him on his writing projects, so to return
the favour I request, no order, that you all attend the CADS
lunch to congratulate him on this well-deserved honour.
See you there:
Friday the 25th January at 12 noon sharp.

Scheveningen Some 10,000 people took a dip in the sea at
Scheveningen, traditionally the biggest of the New Year's Day
swims. The sea temperature was 7 Celsius, one degree colder
than last year, but felt chillier because of the wind.
AmsterdamA 76-year-old man from Amsterdam got stuck in a recy-
cling paper container on Thursday morning after trying to retrieve a
lottery ticket, the citys police said.Passers by heard his shouts for

ticket, the police statement said.
London Towns in the Netherlands are consider-
ing whether to heat their cycle lanes. According
to BBC News, the scheme plans to use geo-thermal
energy to prevent ice forming on the paths, which
would encourage them to be used more in the
winter. The scheme is reported to cost between
26,000 and 52,000 per mile.

NBC News Florida - A Florida man

causing the vehicle to strike the

his home, authorities said.
TodaysNews OhioIdentical twins Darlene and Diane met identical
twins Mark and Craig Sanders at a twin convention. Darlene and
Mark fell in love and got married, as did Diane and Craig. Diane and
Craig have since given birth to identical twin boys. The odds of hav-
ing identical twins are three in every 1,000 births, but the odds of an
identical twin marrying another identical twin and then giving birth
to identical twins are...well... you work it out.
Daily Mail Stockholm -- A 20-year-old female cleaner suffered severe injuries
after stealing a commuter train and driving it straight into an apartment
building in Stockholm, Sweden. The young woman appears to have been
unable to stop the train once she reached the end of the line in the exclusive
suburb of the Swedish capital at around 2.30am in the morning. The woman
was going at such speed that the train continued for nearly 100 feet off-rail
before it smashed into the apartment block where three families were asleep.

The last great CADS news of 2012,
received just before the New
Year, is that Mike Carn has been
honoured with an OBE for his
charitable and commercial efforts
on behalf of Queen and country
whilst chairing CADS.
This is the first time such an honour has been
awarded to a CADS chairman, and is a fitting endto our 40th Jubilee year.
The OBE is similar to the Order of Orange Nassau in The Nether-
lands, and comes in various forms. The most numerous is the
MBE Member of the Order of the British Empire, colloquially
known as My Bloody Efforts, awarded to individuals doing
good work in the community. Next in the pecking order is the
OBE Officer of the Order, colloquially Other Buggers
Efforts because it honours leaders of organisations.
MIKE
And then there is the CBE, Commander of the Order, colloquially
Companys Bloody Efforts because it is awarded to successful
company leaders.
From this, you can conclude that not only has Mike done an excel-
lent job, but also that CADS has been recognised. So well done to
all members, and long may we prosper with our commercial,
cultural and charitable efforts to bring the peoples of the UK and
Netherlands closer together.
On Friday the 25th January we have the first CADS lunch of the
year, to congratulate Mike and to hear Peter Blickman speak
about how to train a dog to be really helpful.
See you there!!!
