SUBWAY SOUNDS CONCERT
It is concert time once again for all Subway Sounds Instrumentalist.
Due to the success of recent evening concert’s we are continuing with the
evening events. This year we are having our concert on Thursday December
the 10th starting at 6.30pm in the school’s multi-purpose room. All children are
scheduled to perform at least one item. As with last year’s concert, door prizes
can be won and exam students will be presented with their certificates.
Children are welcome to dress in their finest attire for the evening; school
uniform is not a pre-requisite.
Concerts are one of the best ways for talented students to show their
great skills to all the mums and dads, so I hope to see everyone there and
would love to catch up for a chat at the conclusion. See you all there
Thank you.

From the Principal
Parent Payments
Shortly you will receive a letter about the parent payments for 2016. It clearly explains the difference between what is
provided by the school and classed as ‘free instruction’ and what is expected to be paid for by parents. The buildings,
facilities and staffing are included in the ‘free instruction’. School Councils can request payments from parents to cover
essential items such as stationery and text books (parents are expected to pay for these), optional items such as excursions
and camps and voluntary contributions such as buildings and grounds maintenance.
We have tried to keep costs to a minimum to support our families in these hard economic times and you will note that our
fees have gone down this year. Also as an incentive to pay early, if you pay in full before the end of the year there will be
a $10 discount. Parents who hold a current Health Care Card may be eligible for the Camps sports and excursions fund
(CESF) which is an annual payment of $125 per student to be used to pay for any excursions sports activities or camps.
School Uniform
I notice that many children are out of school uniform lately. I am seeing some children wearing non uniform jumpers.
Also children are forgetting that as a part of our school policy, jewellery is not to be worn and only school coloured hair
adornments are acceptable. This includes hair ties, head bands etc. Also nail polish is not permitted at school. It should be
also noted that although netball skirts are acceptable, they should be of a suitable length and dark blue in colour (bike
shorts or equivalent should be worn underneath for modesty’s sake). Please support us as we enforce our school uniform
policy as everyone wearing school uniform sends a strong message of pride in the school.
We are eSmart
Our school is proud to announce we are now officially an eSmart school. Since we first registered with the program, we
have introduced many new policies and activities to improve the way our school manages cybersafety, bullying and
cyberbulling..We feel confident our students, staff and the wider school community are now well supported to be smart,
safe and responsible users of digital technology. We encourage everyone in the school community to continue to uphold
and promote eSmart behaviours, at school and at home. If you are aware of any incidents of bullying, cyberbullying or
risky online behaviour, please contact the Principal or our eSmart coordinators Honnie Atkins and Cathy U’Ren.
CCTV
Next week we are having an upgrade to our security systems and more CCTV cameras will be installed. We take a lot of
pride in our school and need to do as much as we can to ensure that our school facilities are as well maintained as possible.
Expanding our security systems will ensure we can monitor any unauthorised entry and report accurate information to the
Police to prevent potential theft or vandalism.
School Council
At School Council this week a number of policies were updated and ratified. These will shortly be published on our web
site. Please look out for our new Sun smart, Camera and Parent Payment policies. School Council also approved the
purchase of a new portable building to be used as a Music Room. As we will have an extra class next year, making 12
classes in all, we were one room short. Unfortunately the Department will not provide us with an extra room until our
numbers reach 326. Currently we are 265. So a decision was made to purchase one ourselves. This will give us a great
deal of flexibility and increase our options in future years.
Reports
Currently teachers are in the middle of assessments and writing children’s reports. As you know we implemented a new
reporting system (Sentral) mid-year and in response to parent feedback have since modified it, in particular to include
more personal comments. We are very excited to announce that your child’s reports will be available online at the end of
the year and reports will no longer be printed out and delivered to you via your child. Rather you will be able to access
your child’s report via a parent portal and print it out yourself if you wish. The parent portal is an exciting new innovation
which has many aspects to it and over time more communications will be delivered that way. For example you will soon
be able to monitor your child’s attendance and explain absences by logging in and accessing your child’s details.

Physical Education http://cppsphysed.global2.vic.edu.au/ Walk To School October Now that October is over so too is the Walk To School month, I must say how fantastic it has been to see so many students and families walking to and from school, many making an extra special effort to do so. Congratulation to 1/2U and 3/4K who both had the greatest amount of walkers with 22 students each. 3/4A recorded the highest number of total walks with 210 for the month. An extra special congratulations to Bella, Mia and Charlotte R who walked to and from school every day, as too did Zeke C. Well done to everyone on an amazing effort. Let's now keep up the walking to and from school! 2015 Fun Run As this event was only on yesterday I will include all event details in the next newsletter. Tim Norton PE Co-ordinator Chirnside's Got Talent Auditions are taking place at the moment Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A notice will be coming home soon regarding our Chirnside's Got Talent performances. Sewing Club.
A group of 5/6 girls have been working during their lunch sewing giraffes. The girls have worked diligently trying to
complete these giraffes. The girls will be very proud to show them at assembly next week. Our next project is a xmas tree.
Students in grade 5/6 are welcome to join us Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime.

Vegetable Garden
The 1/2s are looking after the vegetable garden this term. The vegies are coming along nicely, enjoying the
warm weather. Children are helping at recess and lunch to water and weed and soon we will be staking those
tomatoes.

From the Artroom
Term 4 has been a very creative and exciting time in the art room. The main building is full of
displays.
You’ll see the Grade 1 and 2s Sparkling sewn hangings, Margaret Preston styled colourful
flowers and impressionistic Monet gardens. Did you know that Monet would get in trouble for
drawing caricatures of his teachers? One of his teachers had a very large nose!!
The Grade 3 and 4s charcoal owls are looking very mysterious and their papier mache cats and
dogs are looking very cool, all dressed up in their bling.
The 5 and 6s wall art guitars for their bedrooms are something to see. They will brighten up any
room in your house. I’m sure the students will agree that this term has been a lot of work and a
lot of fun.
Now that we are nearing the end of the year it might be a good time to check art smocks. The
children have grown so much. For ease in the art room it’s always great when your child’s name
is on the front of the smock.
If you have any small Christmas decorations you no longer need they would be put to good use
by the grade 6s when they create the traditional Christmas bon bon table decorations. Once
again thank you for all the generous donations for the art room. It is very much appreciated.

Visualising with Jeanie Baker The scuba diver was in the crystal clear water, he was shivering and freezing. He felt the green
smooshy seaweed swirling round his feet. He tasted the salty yucky water and he smelt the salt
water. The scuba divers suit was keeping him a little warm.
By Abbey 1/2W
" I try to go up out of the water but the
seaweed stops me like a shield. I am getting
pushed down deeper and deeper and deeper. I
open one eye and then I open the other. I find
myself in the bottom of the ocean. I
see two beady eyes looking at me".
Sophie Leech, 1/2U
In the middle of the scorching hot desert in Australia I am boiling hot. I try to get away from the
bright sun but I could not get away. It felt like the blooming sun is watching me as I try to get
away. The pelicans flutter into the squishy mud. Splash! mud exploded all over me. The emus
doze as I walk past. The animal sounds, sound like music. I need nice cold water and food. But
all there is, is dust and red sand. I am surviving. I am going to die it's so hot.

Before and After School Care
Newsletter - November This term Camp Australia is working in partnership with Oxfam Australia to provide Christmas
presents for Oxfam’s partner organisation, Sophakama Community Based Development, Care
and Support Organisation based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
At Before and After School Care we are busy making jigsaws featuring the children’s drawings
and making Memory Card sets using pictures of Australian animals to send over to the children
in South Africa as Christmas presents.
This week we are also focusing on learning about the African ‘Big 5’ and we are attempting to
make a life size drawing of an elephant with height measurements – so that we can all measure
ourselves against the size of the elephant
Bookings for Summer Holiday Club are open – program is available in the OSHC room or
online at www.campaustralia.com.au/holidayfun.
Don’t forget – at Camp Australia we make kids smile - and at Chirnside Park Heather, Chloe,
Shannon and Abbey - we are all doing our best to make this happen.
