In Finland, all Vocational Qualifications have Common Vocational Units, which every student must complete in order to graduate. One part of the Common Vocational Units is Competence in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. It includes subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and chemistry, and Information and communication technology and its utilization. These units will be dealt with in this project with expert teachers involved. Furthermore, Tredu also co-operates closely with LUMATE centre in Tampere. What are the activities and experience of the partner organisation in the areas relevant for this project? What are the skills and/or expertise of key persons involved in this project?
One strategic goal of the academy is to develop innovation and pedagogic experimentation, and, to this purpose, to create and reinforce partnerships with educational and non-educational structures in France and abroad. The involvement of the rectorat in the project will include it into that general strategy and give it a larger diffusion. So the project, developed in two secondary schools, can become an opportunity of reflecting the teaching of experimental sciences for all the schools of the academy and of the great Eastern Region, in partnership with the other regional academies. One of the further missions of the rectorat is to ensure the quality of the teaching in the different schools of the academy in all taught subjects, including the experimental sciences, as well as to improve the teaching methods. Two inspectors are in charge of the subjects biology and geology at the rectorat, both of them being responsible for the training of the teachers, for the evaluation of their scientific, pedagogic and didactic skills, and for the organization of the teaching and exams in the secondary schools. Their knowledge of the teacher teams enables them to identify persons whose skills, both in their subject and in English, will allow to communicate with foreign teachers about their teaching methods, and to re-evaluate them according to what they will experience in the partner countries. As specialists of the experimental methods, they will also participate each to one mobility abroad, in order to share their scientific experience with other executive of the partner regions. They will also ensure that the teachers involved in the project share their experience with colleagues of other schools on a broader level. The Academy’s Delegate for European and International Relations, who manages the whole project according to her mission of developing cooperation and partnerships between schools of the academy and foreign schools, is responsible for the communication with the partners and for the organization in the academy. The service will offer its experience in project management to the different persons (inspectors, teachers and also school managers) involved. The great Eastern region, as an associated partner in this particular project, and commonly responsible for the buildings, equipments and non teaching staff of the higher secondary schools (lycées) of the area, will cooperate with the academy in the building and following up of the project.
