• Accelerates plans and visions up to 2020 and beyond• Economics benefits: jobs, tourism sector, skills, private

Olympic Bid Timeline
• Applicant City Stage (2011- Mid 2012)– Submission of applicant city questionnaire to IOC– Political support, infrastructure, transport, venues,
accommodation, finance, general conditions, experience, media– IOC evaluates applicant cities and releases applicant city report
(Mid 2012)• Candidature Phase
– Mid 2012: Short listed applicant cities become Candidates– Late 2012: Submission of detailed Candidature File (detailed
information elaborating on applicant city report)– Early 2013: Visit by IOC evaluation commission– Mid 2013: IOC releases evaluation commission report
– Mid 2013: Election of the 2020 host city

exists- Building temporary venues where no legacy exists
• 70% of venues already exist of which only 10% require permanent work, others require temporary works
• 13% of new venues to be built are permanent• 16% of new venues to be temporary

- Build on 2010 FIFA World Cup legacy (Green Point, Phillipi, Athlone)
- Unlock strategically located land parcels with significant development and social uplifment potential
