Hey there Capital Board Members!
I hope it has been an amazing month of July for many of
you, in terms of both Key Club and not. As a District, I
am very happy to say we have had numerous
successes. From sending over 40 kids cross country to
the International Key Club Convention, to doing
summer service.
This month, we have finally gotten our committees
together, and I am so excited to see what we will be
able to do this year! The cool thing about committees is
that the work you do will last far beyond your term as
Lt. Governros. For this reason, and many more I
strongly urge you to take your work seriously and put a
lot of effort into your directives.
In late July I once again got on a plane with our District
mascot and traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana. There, at
the University of Indianapolis campus all members of
the 2014-2015 Key Club International Council
convened for the annual Leadership Conference. I got
to know our Trustee, Gary and work with him to solve
puzzles and play other leadership activities you guys
will be doing at future Board Meetings. Although we
were for only a day and a half, we were mighty
productive and accomplished a lot.
As August continues I know the majority of you guys
will be starting school so I wish you the best of luck-
not that you need it! Also best wishes to everyone
filling out the Common Application for college at this
time, I know you will be terrific! Remember that
although times are going to get stressful for you, you
have many people that are here to support you no
matter what! Don’t be afraid to reach out for help when
you need it!
Yours in Service,
Anastasia Slepukhova

SUMMER FUNDRAISER
THE ELIMINATE PROJECT
SPECIAL UPDATE
As of July 28th, Key Club has raised
US$910,081.18 this year. We are not quite at
our September 30th goal of 1.5 million dollars.
The quickest way to bridge this gap is to
encourage all clubs to submit the funds they
already have made.
The Eliminate Project SLP subcommittee
application is out! This is a great opportunity to
extend to the members in your Divisions that
have been heavily involved with Project
Eliminate. Our very own International Trustee,
Gary Cheng had this position last year so if you
have any questions be sure to ask! Also, if y ou
have any questions about the application, or
want me to look it over please don’t hesitate to
ask! I would be a great honor to have next
year’s SLP Subcommittee Chair to be someone
from Capital!
The application is here: http://goo.gl/cSpzL1

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
EVALUATIONS
For those who check your email, you recently
received a Lt Governor Evaluation rubric. The
purpose of this system is to set basic guidelines
that are applicable for all Divisions in the Capital
District. It outlines all of your duties and
responsibilities as a Lt. Governor, most of which
criteria you should already be doing. The only
difference is that now you might need to put in the
extra effort to prove the completion of some of
these items. Believe us, this is not meant to create
more work for you; you have to consider just the
amount of work this creates for us! Keeping track
of all those categories for 33 Lt. Governors! But we
don’t mind it at all because we strongly believe in
this system as it allows you to be held accountable
and gives you points for doing things that are
already in your job description. However, this is a
new system for all of us. If you have any questions
or suggestions, please do let us know.
COMMITTEES
You recently received Committee Assignments
and Directives for the 2014-2015 service year.
Please note that nothing, aside from assignments
is permanent on that document. If you have any
suggestions for directives, even if it is not your
committee please let us know. Also, in efforts to
create more leadership opportunities on the
Board, and to get more member feedback,
please send us recommendations of any
members in your Divisions that would
potentially be interested in serving on a
District Committee.
DIVISIONAL MASCOTS
We voted to allow Divisions to choose a mascot, if
that is something they want and benefit from
having more spirit. Please email Anastasia with
your selection to reserve that mascot.
MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Karley Copperthite, is the President of Winters
Mill High School Key Club from Division 7B. She
has done an outstanding job as a President, but
even more so as a leader by; keeping constant
communication with her club, being very involved
with her division, having constant communication
with her Lt. Governor and by always having a
positive attitude. Karley is very creative and
always has many great ideas for fundraisers and
service projects. Upon attending ICON, she even
put together a video to show her club members
just how amazing ICON was and to encourage
them to attend next year. You can view the video
here: http://goo.gl/gmVi8G
She has completely turned Winters Mill Key Club
around for the better as they have never been
involved with the district until now. Great job
Karley! We wish the best of luck to you and your
club this year!
CLUB OF THE MONTH
Severna Park High School of Division 4A is an an
exemplary club that knows the importance of
hard work and dedication. They were the only
club to have all officers and several additional
members in attendance Devyn King’s DCM. They
are also role models when it comes to service-
they held a school supply drive and packed
backpacks for kids who won't be able to afford
school supplies for next year. In addition to that,
they have big plans for service projects over the
summer, such as volunteering at a mud run next
week. Keep up the great work, and once again- big
Shout Out to Severna Park High School Key Club!

DISTRICT EDITOR
Promoting the Capital Key
At the beginning of July, the first edition of the Capital Key was finally published! First off,
thanks to everyone for all of the help and support. Special shout outs to Dylan and Ms.
McDermott for meticulously examining the publication and providing feedback.
The first Capital Key is available online here: http://goo.gl/yyDIxw. Please send it out to your
clubs if you haven’t already! It’s also available on the Capital District website.
Also please provide your clubs access to the Google Drive for Editors (available here:
goo.gl/kUnzT4). It’s a great resource for all editors to have access to. Available on the Drive are
different Key Club-themed doodles, templates for different types of newsletters, examples of
newsletters done in the past, and a shortened version of the Key Club Graphics standards.
Please send all of these resources out to your clubs! Tweet them, Facebook them, and text them
to your club officers. Thanks a lot!
Articles for September Capital Key
Now that the first magazine has been published, it’s time to start thinking about the second!
Yay! If you are a junior, you’re probably going to get an email from me pretty soon about
writing an article.
Again, the article topics are:
ICON (wasn’t it so fun?) KOTIO (service, yay!) Fall Rally (especially if you’re on the committee) International Board (Gary!)
If you’d like to write one of these, let me know! Otherwise I’ll assign them randomly. Shout out
to Esther for already emailing me an article about summer service. Go Esther.
Thanks so much everyone!

DISTRICT SECRETARY
Hints from Hojin
Hello Capital Board! I hope you all
have been having a great summer!
July has been a very eventful
month, with ICON and the online
board meeting already behind us.
Keeping that in mind, let’s
remember to stay vigilant during
the last month of summer ( D: ).
#1 – Please bcc or cc Anastasia
and me with all of your Key Club
related emails!
#2 – Key Club does not take a
break during the summer!
Newsletters and reports are still
important and should be turned in
promptly.
#3 – Directory submissions are
due on September 30th! Do not
forget!
ICON
My ICON experience was a mix
of learning, bonding, and fun! I
got to meet others that share the
same passions while enjoying
the sweet, dry air of Anaheim.
Disneyland felt like a dream,
with all of the amusing rides and
characters spread around the
park.
Perhaps the most exciting part
of ICON was elections. With
newly-elected IT Liz Moore
representing Capital, we
couldn’t be prouder.
Coming out of California, I was
sad that it was over but glad that
I got to come.
Encourage members to attend
ICON next year!

DISTRICT TREASURER
8
Expectations
Hey everyone! I hope y’all
are having a fun summer. As
summer is winding down,
there a bunch of things to
expect from me. As District
Treasurer I’m expected to
send out 3 Club Newsletters
along with the monthly ones
you’re currently reading.
These club newsletters are
supposed to go to all the
Club Treasurers so as soon
as all the submissions are
sent to Hojin, I will have my
Treasurer Binder and I will
be able to send out a
finalized version. Something
else I’m currently working
on is an official notice to the
District Board Members and
the faculty advisors about
the dues increase. Lastly, I
will also be modifying the
Key Club Dues FAQ to create
an updated Capital version.
That’s right. The District
Treasurer is actually doing
work.
Eliminate!
I know I have another 2 Key
Club Preferred Charities
that I need to spotlight, but
given the SLP Application
that I making it’s through, I
thought I would share some
numbers about the
Eliminate Project. Basically,
The Eliminate Project,
Kiwanis International and
UNICEF have joined forces
to eliminate maternal and
neonatal tetanus. Capital set
their goal at 3 million but to
date, we have raised
1,366,683.90 with 239 Walter
Zeller recipients and 217$ per
member (I’m still figuring the
math behind that). With our
goal at 80,000, we are surely
facing an uphill battle but we
have every aid available for
us to succeed. The Project
Eliminate website has a
bunch of fundraising ideas
and practically everyone can
be put to use with the help
with a YOF Grant. Remember,
a simple 1.80$ can save the
life of one and the lifelong
suffering of a mother.
