Case 363: 72 y/o man with diffuse skin erythema and
lymphocytosis
History
• A 72 year-old man consulted a hematologist after the incidental finding of a WBC count of 25.0 x 103/uL (25,000/uL) by his family physician. A peripheral blood smear had shown 83% mononuclear cells somewhat larger than well-differentiated lymphocytes with cleaved nuclei and occasional prominent nucleoli. He had erythematous and thickened skin (erythroderma) affecting his chest, back, groin, and to a lesser extent, his face and arms. There was no significant lymphadenopathy or hepatosplenomegaly
