Reading Workshop: Monday  we  had  a  really  fun  lesson  about  Buffalo  Chips.    I’d  be  surprised  if  your  student  didn’t  come  home  and  tell  you  about  what  they  learned  from  this  “gross”  lesson!    Since  then  we  have  started  reading  The  Long  Winter.    This  is  a  really  challenging  book,  mostly  because  of  the  vocabulary,  but  the  students  are  doing  a  wonderful  job  reading  each  chapter.  We  are  working  on  summarizing,  determining  theme,  and  using  context  clues.   Math: This week we worked hard on multiplication, using Partial Products and the Box Method. Students have been doing awesome with this! Please continue to practice those multiplication facts at home. Next week, we will begin the second part of Unit 3àdivision! We will be using a method called Partial Quotients where we find parts of the quotient (answer) at a time. Writing Workshop: This  week  we  started  by  organizing  our  character,  setting,  plot  (beginning,  middle,  end),  problem,  solution,  and  theme.    The  rest  of  the  week  we  have  been  drafting  the  first  version  of  our  pieces.  We  are  peer  editing  along  the  way  as  long  as  conferring  with  Ms.  Thompson. Science: We have been discussing weathering and erosion as we kicked off our Unit 2. Our main focus has been on mechanical weathering, which is when a rock is broken down physically (by ice, water, animals, plants, glaciers, wind, or heat). Next week we will explore chemical weathering.
