Catalyst• In your journal, respond to the following
question:Would it be a good idea to inflate my road bike
tires to high pressures in Los Angeles during the summer? Why or why not? Think CHEMISTRY!

Pressure Stations!
• Groups of 4 (we will number off)• Each station has an activity and 2-3 journal
questions that you are responsible for.• Your exit ticket today is your individual
journal responses. I will be checking these before you leave today.

Lecture 6.2 – Pressure Effects
![Page 4: Catalyst](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062517/56813d1f550346895da6df00/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Learning Target (Review)• LT 6.1 – I can explain how pressure is created
through the collisions of molecules with a surface.
![Page 5: Catalyst](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062517/56813d1f550346895da6df00/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
I. Pressure vs. Temperature• Thermal energy – energy that is related to
temperature.• Pressure increases with increasing thermal
energy.
![Page 6: Catalyst](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062517/56813d1f550346895da6df00/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
II. Pressure vs. # of Molecules
• Pressure increases with the # of gas molecules…why?– More molecules = more
collisions
![Page 7: Catalyst](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062517/56813d1f550346895da6df00/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
III. Pressure vs. Altitude• Pressure decreases with altitude (as we go
higher up in the atmosphere)…why???– Gravity– Temperature decreases
![Page 8: Catalyst](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062517/56813d1f550346895da6df00/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
IV. Pressure vs. Depth
• Pressure increases with depth (below the surface of the ocean)…why?– Weight of water
creates pressure
• Dolphin Kid, Son of Aquaman

Label It!
• In your journal, please label your station activities as either: pressure vs. temperature, pressure vs. # of molecules, pressure vs. altitude, or pressure vs. depth.
• This is your exit ticket for today and your journal will be graded!

Closing TimeClosing Time• Homework: HW6.1 set due Thursday/Friday.
This will be graded!• Binder tabs, binder, and notebook are
required.
