IXfromAcademicYear2017-18onwards.Asyouareaware,theCBSEhasissuedCircularNo.Acad-05/2017dated31.01.2017ontherestorationofBoardExaminationforclassXandrevisedassessmentstructureandexamination for class X from Academic Year 2017-18 onwards. This new schemewillbringtheuniformityinthesystemofassessmentandexaminationforclassesIXandXinall the CBSE affiliated schools. To increase the confidence in the students to startpreparingforclassXBoardexaminationwhentheyjointheupperprimarystageinclassVI,theCBSEhasdecidedtoimplementtheuniformsystemofassessment,examinationpatternandissueofreportcardsforclassesVItoVIIIalsoonthesimilarpattern.Whilekeeping inviewtheprovisionsofRighttoEducationAct,2009, theschemeforclassesVI-VIII has been designed on Term Assessment basis with gradual increase in thelearningassessmentasthestudentsmoveforward.ThiswouldpreparethestudentstocoverthewholesyllabusoftheacademicyearandfacethechallengeofclassXBoardexamination,andwouldthus,ensurethe‘qualityofeducation’.
2. The CBSE affiliated schools currently follow various systems of assessment andexamination for classes VI to IX and issue different types of report cards to theirstudents.Duetodisparities inthesystem,thestudentsofclassesVIto IXfaceseveralproblemswhenevertheymigratetoanotherschool.WiththefamilyofCBSEaffiliatedschools growing from 309 schools in 1962 to 18,688 at present, it has becomeimperative to have a uniform system of assessment, examination pattern and reportcardsforclassesVItoIXforeaseofstudentsandotherstakeholders.Thiswillnotonlyensure theeasymigrationof studentswithin the familyofCBSEaffiliated schoolsbutalsoeasetheirdifficultieswhileseekingadmissioninnewschools.
3. WithrestorationofclassXBoardexamination,theCBSEwill issuethereportcardforclassXbasedontheBoardexaminationwitheffectfromAcademicYear2017-18.AstheassessmentstructureandexaminationpatternforclassIXwillbesimilartothatofclassX,thereportcardforclassIXissuedbytheschoolsshouldalsobesimilartothatofclassX.
4.AstheCBSEaffiliatedschoolsarerequiredtofollowtheNCERTsyllabusintheupperprimarystage,uniformityintheassessmentstructure,examinationandissueofreportcards across all the affiliated schools is felt necessary from class VI to VIII. The detailcomponents of the scheme are mentioned below for easy understanding andimplementation.
4.1 Scholastic Area: The assessment structure and examination for classes VI to VIIIhave been prepared in view of the provisions of RTE-Act 2009 and comprises of twotermsi.e.Term-1and2asexplainedbelow:

7. RecordKeeping: TheCBSEaffiliatedschoolswill followthesimpledocumentationprocedureandcollatethesameatthetimeofpreparingthereportcard.Unnecessarylengthyandrepetitivedocumentationbyteachersmustbeavoided.
8. Report Card: Based on the above scheme, report cards for classes VI to IXwillfollow the annexed formats and the report card will prominently display the logo ofCBSEonleftsideandschool'slogoonrightside:
