BIOLOGY PROJECT ON:

CELL ORGANELLES

Page 2: Cell organelles

In cell biology, an organelle  is a specialized subunit within a

cell that has a specific function, and is usually separately enclosed within its own

lipid bilayer.

Page 3: Cell organelles

The Cell Organelles are as follows:

• Cell Membrane• Cell Wall• Nucleus• Cytoplasm• Endoplasmic Reticullum• Ribosomes• Golgi Bodies• Mitochondria• Plastids• Vacuoles• Lysosomes

Page 4: Cell organelles

Cell Membrane

• Outer boundary of cell

• Protects the cell

• Controls what enters and leaves the cell

Page 5: Cell organelles

Cell Wall

• Only found in plant cells

• Adds protection and support

• Made of cellulose.• Allows water and

dissolved substances to pass through.

Page 6: Cell organelles

The Nucleus

• Controls most activities in the cell

• Contains all genetic information in the form of DNA.

Page 7: Cell organelles

Cytoplasm

• Clear fluid within cell that contains all organelles

• Moves materials throughout the cell

Page 8: Cell organelles

Endoplasmic Reticulum

• Series of folded membranes that form sacs or tubes

• Rough ER has ribosomes attached

Page 9: Cell organelles

Ribosomes

• Transports materials between the cytoplasm and nucleus

• Makes proteins in the cell

• May be free in cytoplasm or attached to ER

• Proteins are vital to life- all cells must produce them

Page 10: Cell organelles

Golgi Bodies

• Saclike membranes used for storing/ packaging of chemicals

• Cells that make saliva or mucus have many Golgi bodies

Page 11: Cell organelles

Mitochondria

• Energy producers

• Powerhouse of the cell

• Sausage-shaped

• Many mitochondria in muscle cells

Page 12: Cell organelles

Plastids

• Only found in plants/ algae

• Contain food or pigments

• Leucoplasts store food• Chloroplasts contain

the pigment chlorophyll

Page 13: Cell organelles

Vacuoles

• Store food, water, or waste materials

• Plant cells have large vacuoles

Page 14: Cell organelles

Lysosomes

• Found in Golgi bodies

• Contain digestive enzymes to digest unwanted particles

• Help white blood cells to destroy bacteria
