STA TE OF HAWAII DECORATIONS

2-1. State of Hawaii Med al of Yalor (MY)

a. Author ity: Esmhl ishc<l hy order "f the Governor, State of Hawai i, as allthorized 3 October 1994 and hy this regulation.

c. Cr iteria: The MY is awarded for the Governor to an individual who dis tinguish himself/herself by way of the following criteria:

(1) The performance of an uncommon act of personal heroism involving the voluntary risk of his/her own life. The act must be distinctly beyond what might reasonably be expected under the circumstances and of such a nature that if the act had not been attem pted, criticism of the individual would not be justified.

(2) A self-sacrifice SO conspicuous as to be distinctly above and beyond the cal l of duty. Provided that the individual was placed in personal j~opanly by hislh er volunlar)' action. this includes situations in which th~ indiv idual's ext raordinary p ~ rfOTTllance has ind isputably contrihut~d to the a ll~viati()n Or avoidance of a pllhlic traged)' , to the sateguard of public safety or to the preservation of public property.
