What is a “Mole”?
• By definition a mole is: The mole is a unit of measurement used in chemistry to express amounts of a chemical substance, defined as an amount of a substance that contains as many elementary entities (e.g., atoms, molecules, ions, electrons) as there are atoms in 12 grams of pure carbon-12 (12C), the isotope of carbon with atomic weight 12.

Who invented the “Mole”
• The concept of the mole in the scientific field of chemistry was actually discovered in the 19th century by an Italian scientist whose name was Amadeo Avogadro.

• The Mole was not so much "discovered", but arbitrarily created. All this means is that scientists agreed upon a specific amount that will represent 1 mol of a substance. This amount was related to every element based on its average atomic mass value, which in the case of moles is named the molar mass.

• When you compare amounts of chemicals as they relate to each other, you need the mole ratio. A mole is 6.022 x 10^23, or Avogadro's number, molecules or atoms of any substance. The mole ratio compares the number of moles of one substance in a chemical equation with another substance, usually on the opposite side of the equation.
