Our Goals

Chesterfield United recreation program relies heavily on volunteer coaches to help run practices and games.  Without volunteers we would not be able to have enough coaches for every team. 

We at Chesterfield United appreciate and want to acknowledge the effort and time our volunteer coaches put in to help improve the sport for Chesterfield United.

TOPIC: Dribbling WEEK: Week 1

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION DIAGRAM OBJECTIVES / COACHING POINTS

1Technical Warm Up(15 min)

6 Surfaces: - 20 x 25 yd grid- P layers will perform the following ball touches with one foot: - Outside of the foot touch - Inside of the foot touch - Laces (instep) to push ball away - Bottom (sole) to drag ball back -Toe to push the ball way - Heel to bring the ball back behind you to turn

Dribbling - Keep the ball close - Use all surfaces of the foot - Inside/Outside - Laces (Instep) - Bottom (Sole) and Heel - Keep your head up and use - Change of direction and speed

2Small Sided Activity(20 min

The Running Maze - The players will go around as many cones as they can.- Coach will prompt players to change direction at the cone: - With the inside of the foot (Cutting) - With the outside of the foot (Hooks) - Dragging the ball back (Facing and Away) - With the forward part of the sole

3Expanded Small Sided Activity (20-25 min)

3 v 3 to 3 Gates

- Area: 30 x 30 yd grid with three gates- Players will play to score in the opponents goal after they have dribbled through any of the three gates

Improving passing accuracy

- use different surfaces of foot- Keep eye on ball and target- Look to pass with proper weight

TOPIC: Dribbling to goal WEEK: Week 2

Technical Warm Up(15 min)

Ball Mastery:

- Inside and outside of the foot -Double touches with the outside- switch foot Laces, laces, inside and outside

Improve technique and control of ball

Small Sided Activity(20 min)

3v3 to 3 Gates

- Area: 30x30 yard grid with three gated- Players will score a goal after they have dribbled through any of the three gates

- Be deceptive - Attack the defender at pace - Keep the ball close and in

control

Expanded Small Sided Activity (20-25 min)

4v4(GK+3v3+GK) or 5v5- Dribble into the Finishing Zone: - Area 40LX35W yard grid with two Finishing Zones of 7 yards each - Two teams playing to score in the opponent’s goal by dribbling over the line into the finishing zone - If a player dribbles… - Over the line and dribbles the keeper – 1 billion points - Over the line, shoots or passes to goal 10 points - Any other goal 1 point

TOPIC: Passing and moving WEEK: Week 3

ACTIVITY

1Technical Warm Up(15 min)

Pass and move: - Half of the players on the inside of the square (with soccer balls), half on the outside. - The insiders (Passers) will pass the soccer ball to the outsiders. - The outsiders (Dribblers) will receive with a directional first touch to dribble away from the passer who is pressing him/her.

To improve passing and Dribbling

- Keep the ball close to your feet - Keep head up - Fake and acceleration

2Small Sided Activity(20 min)

2v1 to End Zones: - Area: 25Lx15W yard grid with two Finishing Zones of 3 yards each - Place a team behind the end-line behind the end zone and the defenders behind the opposite end zone. - The attackers will score by dribbling or passing the ball into the end zone.

- use different surfaces of foot- Keep eye on ball and target- Look to pass with proper weight

3Expanded Small Sided Activity (20-25 min)

4v4 (GK+3v3+GK) to Finishing Zones: - Area 30Wx40L yard grid with two finishing zones of 5 yards each -Two teams are trying to score in the opponent’s goal by dribbling or passing to a teammate in the end zone. -The attacking player must time his/her run to receive the ball inside the end zone and score.

TOPIC: Dribbling under pressure WEEK: Week 4

ACTIVITY

DESCRIPTION DIAGRAM OBJECTIVES / COACHING POINTS

Technical Warm Up(15 min)

Turning in Two’s: - Place 4 cones (two red and two blue) in a 12-15 yard line - Pair up the players and place them by the cones - One player will give the go sign and both will dribble into the turning zone - When the dribblers cross the other end line, the next players inline go Turns: Inside of the foot cut, Outside of the foot hook, Drag back and Cruyff

Improve technique and control of ball

- repetition!!- try to increase speed- be creative in sequences

2(15 min)

2v2 to Two Lateral Goals: - Area 20Lx25W yard grid with two Finish Zones of 3 yards- Pair up the players and place them by the cones - Place the groups of two between the light blue cones - the defenders, will serve the ball to the attackers - When the attackers receive the ball, they will try to score in any of the lateral goals. If the defending team gets the ball, they can also score

- Weight of the pass - Accuracy of the pass- Fake and accelerate - Where to dribble

3(15 min)

4v4 (GK+4v4+GK): - Area 30Wx40L yard grid with two finishing zones of 5 yards each -Two teams are trying to score in the opponent’s goal - The players will try to perform a turn under pressure and enter the Finishing Zone for a 100 point goal, any other goal is only 1 point

TOPIC: Passing and receiving WEEK: Week 5

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION DIAGRAM OBJECTIVES / COACHING POINTS

1Technical Warm Up(15 min)

3 Passers and 3 Dribblers: - Area: 15x15 yard grid - Start the activity with 3 players passing the ball and one dribbler trying to get in their way as the players are connecting passes - Add dribblers as the players continue to connect passes - 1-5 passes: 10 points – 1 dribbler - 6-10 passes: 10 points - 2 dribblers - 8+ passes: 10 points – 3 dribblers

Improve passing technique

- Toe up (inside) or down and turned in (outside) - Placement of the non-kicking foot and good balance - Surface of the foot and Surface of the ball to strike

2Small Sided Activity(20 min)

3v1 to One Goal and Small Goal:

- Area: 30LX20W yard grid – Big Goal 6 yards – Small Goal 2 yards - 3 players are keeping possession of the ball and need 4 passes to go to goal; meanwhile, a defender is trying to get the ball and score in the small goal.

Receiving - Keep your feet moving before

the ball arrives and go to it - ankle of receiving foot locked and body behind ball

5v5(GK+4v4+GK) Everyone Touches the Ball:

- Area: 35Lx30W yard gird with two 6 yard goals - Two teams playing to score in the opponent’s goal

TOPIC: Shooting WEEK: Week 6

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION DIAGRAM OBJECTIVES / COACHING POINTS

1Technical Warm Up(15 min)

Free Dribble: All players dribbling in a defined space. Players should use all surfaces of their feet.

Improve technique and control of ball

- repetition!!- try to increase speed- be creative in sequences

2Small Sided Activity(20 min)

Shooting Wars – Set, Shoot, Save and Switch: - Place a player in a 6 yard goal about 12-15 yards apart. - A player in each goal with a ball in hand. - First player will set up the ball to shoot it. He must do it from behind or at the line of his/her goal line. - The second player in the opposite goal needs to make the save. If he makes the save or gets scored on, he/she goes out and a new player comes in.

3Expanded Small Sided Activity (20-25 min)

GK’s +3v3: - Make 3 teams of 3 players. - Two teams will play to score by creating as many scoring opportunities and taking as many shots on target as they can in 2 minutes. - The team with the most goals wins that bout and stays in. - The stand-by team comes in to play for another two minutes

TOPIC: Passing and Receiving WEEK: Week 7

1Technical Warm Up(15 min)

Passer & Dribbling in Square: - Half of the players on the inside of the square (with soccer balls), half on the outside. - The insiders (Passers) will pass the soccer ball to the outsiders. - The outsiders (Dribblers) will receive with a directional first touch to dribble away from the passer who is pressing him/her.

- Toe up (inside) or down and turned in (outside) - Placement of the non-kicking foot and good balance - Surface of the foot and Surface of the ball to strike

2Small Sided Activity(20 min)

Passing and Move in Two’s - Area: 30Lx20W yard grid - Divide the players into groups of 2’s - All groups must play with a minimum of 3 touches (Receive, Dribble and Pass) - The players will perform the following tasks: - Complete ten passes - Complete 5 passes with 4 different partner

- use different surfaces of foot- Keep eye on ball and target- Look to pass with proper weight

3v3 to Small Goals: - Area: 25Lx20W yard grid - Two teams playing to score in the opponent’s goal. Teams score by dribbling or passing through the goal

TOPIC: Shooting WEEK: Week 8

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION DIAGRAM OBJECTIVES / COACHING POINTS

1Technical Warm Up(15 min)

Juggling: - All players with a soccer ball in their hands drop the ball down and try to kick it back up to their hands. Coach: -Have the players count how many times they touch the ball before it hits the ground. Version 2:- Controlled juggling - Thigh, foot, catch. Thigh, thigh, foot, catch. Thigh, thigh, foot, foot, catch.

Hand, eye, foot coordination - Use foot and thigh

2Small Sided Activity(20 min)

Shooting Though the Cones : - Arrange players in 4 lines with a ball between them about 20-30 yards apart from each other. -Place two cones representing a goal between each group about 6 yards apart. - Players shoot the ball and follow their shot to the opposite side.

Shooting Technique

-Body position and balance - Eye on the ball at moment

of - Strike ball with ankle locked - Non-kicking foot directed at target 3

Expanded Small Sided Activity (20-25 min)

Beat the Goalkeeper: - With the same setup, add a GK in between the cones. - The GK will only change when the shooter scores by putting the ball through the cones. - After every shot the GK will turn around and try to stop/save the shot from his opponent.

Against a Goalkeeper

- Keep the shot low - Try to hit the area near the cones - Use instep for power or inside of the foot to place the ball

WEEK 9

Mini World Cup Week

2v2/3v3/4v4 Tournament

RULESSplit teams into World Cup 2014 teams and run a mini World Cup during practice

Small goals and kick ins or dribbles ins – NO THROW IN’s

10-15 minute games – Aim for 4 games

If you are super organized – At the beginning of the week tell them to wear the color of the team you give them – ex USA (white), Brazil (yellow), France (blue) etc
