Aims The SEND Act (NI) 2016, revised SEN regulations and revised Code of Practice are the key building blocks in delivering the proposed new SEN Framework. This training day aims to update SENCos on actions taken to date following the collaboration events during the last school year, and to provide training in the new arrangements for recording pupils with SEN on SIMS in partnership with C2k. Objectives SENCos • will be aware of developments in preparation for the new SEND Act (NI) 2016; • will be updated and provided with feedback on actions taken by the EA to date following the
collaboration events; • will be updated on the revised timeframe in regard to the implementation of the new SEN
framework; • will collaborate with colleagues to consider the implications of the new SEN categories; • will be aware of the potential impact of the implementation of CoP 2019* when recording
pupils with SEN; • will understand how to input SEN information on SIMS with a particular focus on recording
pupils with SEN.

Aim and Learning Outcomes
The SEND Act (NI) 2016 revised SEN regulations and revised Code of Practise are the key building blocks in delivering a new SEN Framework. This course will introduce Governors to the various elements of the new framework being introduced between 2016 and 2018/19. • To raise awareness of current and new legislation and policy in regard to children and young
people with SEN including the new duties as outlined in the SEND Act (NI) 2016; • To inform Governors of the proposed new SEN Framework; • To highlight new responsibilities for Governors regarding their statutory rights in relation to
children and young people with SEN; • To discuss the timeframe for the full implementation of the SEND Act (NI) 2016; • To inform the quality assurance role of a Board of Governors in overseeing SEN provision and in
implementing the new duties for supporting children and young people with SEN.

Aim and Learning Outcomes
AIMS: • To enable designated and deputy designated teachers to have an understanding of
child protection and safeguarding issues; • To equip designated and deputy designated teachers with the knowledge and skills
required to apply relevant child protection legislation, policies and procedures to their day to day practice.
OBJECTIVES: Day 1
• Become familiar with the principles, legislation policies and guidance underpinning safeguarding and the relationship between safeguarding and child protection;
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of physical, sexual, emotional abuse, neglect and exploitation;
• Increase awareness of specific safeguarding issues such as domestic violence, child sexual exploitation and E –safety and recognise safeguarding issues for children with increased vulnerabilities;
• The roles and responsibilities of designated teachers, the safeguarding team, Board of Governors, EA CPSS and ETI.
Day 2
• Through the use of a case study become familiar with the following; • Case management reviews; • Challenges for children and professionals in managing disclosures; • Recognising, receiving, responding to and recording activities following a
disclosure or observation of child abuse; • Use of the UNOCINI referral document; • Relationships with our partner agencies and how we communicate with them; • Case conference and decision making; • Recording and record keeping; • Policy development in your school; • Child protection awareness raising for all school staff.
