SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE The Search Committee met on April 24. Additional documents relative to the
search process were distributed. One of the three candidates being considered for
the interim position informed the committee that he is in negotiations with a church
in Massachusetts. Video sermons from the two remaining candidates were viewed.
Reports of reference calls regarding said candidates were presented. Discussion re-
sulted in the decision to interview both candidates.
On May 9 the Search Committee conducted a phone interview with one candidate.
A profile from another candidate was distributed.
On May 16 the Search Committee was informed that the second interview candi-
date had accepted a position at another church. A video sermon from the most re-
cent candidate was viewed. After discussion it was decided to schedule personal
interviews with the remaining two candidates.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SHIRLEY MUSICK AS SHE
GRADUATES FROM PENN WEST ACADEMY FOR MINISTRY
Shirley has completed her studies at the Penn West Acade-
my for Ministry where she was pursuing Licensed Ministry.
While at the academy Shirley has felt called by God to Or-
dained Ministry and will be pursuing an alternative path to
Ordination under the guidance of the Westmoreland Associ-
ation Committee on Ministry.
Shirley is currently serving Trinity UCC in Greensburg as a
student pastor and plans to continue in that capacity while
she continues toward Ordination.
Shirley is a lifelong member of Christ UCC and has been very active in serving in
various capacities. She has sung in the choir, taught Sunday School, directed
VBS, served as both deacon and elder of the consistory and has held several offic-
es as part of the consistory.
BE SURE TO JOIN US ON JUNE 11 as we honor Shirley Musick on her completion of classes at the Penn West Academy for Licensed Ministry. Refreshments will be served while we visit with Shirley after the congregational Meeting on June 11, 2017.

Changing Seasons
The luscious greening of mountains and hills since Easter
Sunday has been the perfect backdrop to beginning the position as
music director at Christ UCC Church. Change is in the air, and all
things are new! I’m extremely grateful for the warm welcome from
the congregation and especially from the choir members who have worked so dil-
igently to offer anthems each Sunday morning. Thank you, all! It’s an honor to be
among and to serve you.
The celebration of Pentecost on June 4 will be the choir’s last Sunday to
sing at the worship service before a summer break, but we hope to introduce a
summer choir. On two Sundays – July 16 and August 13 – regular choir members
and any others in the congregation, young, old or in between, who wish to join in
are invited to come a little early to learn an easy anthem to be sung at worship
that day. No rehearsals beforehand, no robes, and everyone can return to the pews
to rejoin family after the anthem. It should be fun and a way to participate in the
choir, if however briefly. In addition, if anyone would like to offer special music
or know of someone who would, either sing a solo or play an instrument, please
let me know. Your music offerings will provide variety and, once again, a brief
but meaningful opportunity to contribute.
As the search for a new pastor at Christ Church begins, it’s my prayer and
hope that the music will be a cantus firmus to see the congregation through this
new season of examination and change.
WANT TO SING ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE HYMNS DURING
WORSHIP THIS SUMMER?
Drop a note in the offering plate with the title and hymn number and you may just
see it listed in the bulletin sometime soon.
THANK YOU TO ALL FOR
SUPPORTING ZOE The Klug family (Mickey, Stacey, Ava and
Zoe), Marcie and I would like to extend a
heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone for your
thoughts and prayers for baby Zoe during her
recent health issues. I am happy to report that
she is doing very well and making an incredi-
ble recovery. She just celebrated her 6 month
birthday on May 16, 2017.
Your generous giving and well wishes have strengthened our belief that there are
still good people in the world and has brought us closer to our faith and belief that
there is power in prayer.
Thank You, and God Bless You,
Rich Baker
LAY LIFE AND MISSION COMMITTEE The Lay Life Committee has chosen Back Bay Mission as our
mission for June. Back Bay Mission is a community ministry
of the United Church of Christ meeting the urgent needs of
those suffering from poverty and its effects while building
pathways to social justice. They lead the way in delivering ser-
vices, creating collaborative solutions, and transforming lives
through mission immersion experiences. Back Bay Mission
relies on the support of people across the United States and throughout the United
Church of Christ. Donations may be placed in the envelopes available on the ta-
ble in the Chapel and also in the Church pews. Thank you in advance for your
support.
GREATER LATROBE CARING PROGRAM
Each summer, the Lay Life and Mission Committee requests donations of sweat
shirts, sweat pants, shorts and t-shirts to restock supplies in local schools. The
schools require that these items be “logo” free or “plain.” Students, at times,
have an emergency need for clothing due to accidents of many types during the
school day. Monetary gifts are also welcome.
Bienvenue will meet on Wednesday, June 7 at 12:30
PM at Chef Dato’s Table, Route 217. All ladies of the
church are welcome to attend.
CHRIST CHURCH’S BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
The next book discussion will be held on Friday, June 9
at 11:00 AM. The selection is The Two-Family House by
Lynda Cohen Loigman. In a Brooklyn two-family brown-
stone, two babies are born minutes apart during a blizzard
in 1947. The mothers, Rose and Helen, raise their families
supporting one another and sharing a bond forged before
and during that winter night.
SOUP AND SALAD BAR
Soup is back by popular request! Of course, there will be
delicious salads and desserts too. Tell your friends and
plan to attend from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on June 14.
Price is $7.00 and tickets may be purchased at the door.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help with Senior Food Distribution on
Tuesday, June 27 at 8:30 AM. Thanks so much for your help as always.
The men of the Church will be honored with a small gift on
Sunday, June 18. Encourage your fathers, sons, brothers and
friends to attend.

items to Christ Church in June. It’s time to clean un-
used or unwanted items out of your bookshelves and storage area.

The Last Potluck Supper Join us for an afternoon of fun and fellowship at the
Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown, PA on Sunday,
June 25. Show begins at 3. Tickets are $30.00 each.
Sign up in the Chapel.
The Church Basement Ladies are back in the very last install-
ment of the series. It’s 1979 and the parishioners are celebrating the Centennial of First
Cornucopia Lutheran. As the ladies work, memories of the past come to life. Travel
back to 1897 and meet Vivian’s grandmother, one of the founding members of the
church; see Karin as a newlywed, learning the politics of the kitchen; and be there
when Mavis first bursts through the swinging door. It’s 100 years of history in toe-
tapping song and dance with a serving of hot dish and egg coffee.
Inspired by the books of Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson, authors of the best-seller
“Growing Up Lutheran.” Additional contributions by Mark Brodin. Written by Greta Grosch,
MINISTERIUM FOOD ITEMS FOR JUNE

Pantry distributions each month. For the month of June, salad dressing is
needed. Plastic bottles only. Thank you so much for your generosity. A box is
in the sanctuary to collect these items.

Strengthen The Church is a special mission offering
to reimagine and build the future of the UCC. Shared at the
conference and national levels, STC largely supports youth
ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the
country where the UCC voice has not been heard.
As God calls our congregations to be the "church" in new ways,
your generosity will plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches and
develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults. STC funds will also be used
to award grants to help congregations communicate the "God is still speaking," mes-
sage. Christ Church will receive the STC offering on Pentecost Sunday, June 4. 2017.
