The slogan "Don ' t Be a L l t t e r b u g " i s more than a catchy p h r a s e to the chi ldren of M r s . M a r j o r i e B e a r d s l e e ' s sect ion of the 5 th -grade at the Kent Ci ty-Casnovia E lemen ta ry School.

After d iscuss ing the e f f e c t s of l i t te r ing on the i r community, the ch i ld ren studied water and a i r pollution and decided to make p o s t e r s to e x p r e s s the i r feel ings about l i t t e r ing and pollution.

Steve Larson visi ted a paper mil l . Concerned by the amount of pollution caused by the modern

f a c t o r i e s , he made a model o f a p a p e r m i l l in detai l showing the c h e m i c a l s dra ining into the r i y e r and the smoke s t acks giving off the i r ga se s into the a i r .

Steve and all of the o the r chi ldren a r e to be con -g ra tu la t ed on the r e s e a r c h they did on th i s p r o j e c t . It i s hoped that soon all will fee l the r e spons ib i l i t y to keep this nation a m o r e heal thful and m o r e beaut i fu l p lace to l ive .
