My idea of Christ-
mas, whether old-
fashioned or
modern, is very
simple:
loving others.
Come to think of it,
why do we have to
wait for Christmas
to do that?
To all the small people. To the local companies. The large
National companies. To the big Multi-National companies.
To our amazing volunteers.
For all you gave this year to OATS projects.
“Bless you and Merry Christmas” Jim (Snr).
Here’s just a few of those benevolent donors
Does it surprise any one that the only ones that refused to help are on salaries and pensions paid for
by you and I ? Plus those getting multi million pound government contracts and are too busy to even
send an email acknowledgement. It’s been a year off savage Government cuts to public services, a
year of terrorism , a year of calls for war, a year of massive profits for some and total misery for
many. But every time someone gives some of their time, a donation, a helping hand for those less
fortunate, even a supportive word. I feel ten feet tall and full of hope. I THANK ALL OF YOU

We need more
family volunteers
and trainers
You amazed us with your personal sacrifices and wowed us with your generosity and sadly
some have shocked us with their ignorance and belligerence...but here are some of the years
efforts to help those disadvantaged, or less fortunate and OATS efforts to become self sustain-
ing and not just relying on funding, or generous peoples hand out's. Mostly by engaging those
we help to become more independent, job wise and integrated socially, and of course training.
The Ladies’s are setting
up the ‘up-cycling’ mar-
kets. After 0400 starts
and 3-4pm finishes It
generates small in-
comes, but means we
can travel , make phone
calls, print, and general
bursary and expenses….
Join us at Sneinton mar-
ket as a new ‘start up’.
Key-cutting Training and Start up op-
portunities, now embedded in OATS
new “Community Job club” hosted by
REAL post 16 Education and employa-
bility...Has opened up another trickle
income for the Charity. But more im-
portantly is helping those with disa-
bilities and modest skill sets, to get
onto the earning and independence
ladder. It will also be part of our Na-
tional fundraising drive….Here Habib
and Alchemy’s David Jones, are giving
our Key cutting training their Thumbs
up.
Staples High Wycombe and Staples Ad-
vantage Birmingham. Twice in one year
have generously helped equip our pro-
jects with their office equipment’s being
used to furnish employability offices and
REALs education programs classrooms.

Good and long term Collaborations are the way forward
Remember Brave Joe’s story
(earlier Newsletter) Have you ever had your emails requesting help or seeking
information, or answers from your local councils simply
ignored? time and time again. I don't mean your elected
representatives, your vote will be your power there. But
those paid to help us, or provide and serve the public who
pay their salaries? If so Email me please. Let’s see if all the
comments I hear, or my own experiences are prevalent.
Empty & council owned (you and I owned, that is)… com-
mercial properties, some for decades!!! Empty decaying. I
have asked under FOI and several times...Still months and
months on. Not even an acknowledgement. Scandalous!
For this service level we pay Taxes. I know a lot of you tell
me you daren't criticise them, for fear of them withdraw-
ing funding or help they are supposed and paid to give you
anyway. Sad, but okay, then do it anonymously...lets find
them out. Some have now been formed into Ltd entities.

OATS RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS
Still looking for Students or competent volunteers to help
launch a National fundraising (huge) annual charity event.
Several commercial concerns on board already to offer their
support with over 2000 commercial outlets, a software
company and a great cause (disabled soldiers and terminally
ill children). Future salaried position once fund established.
Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic and reliable? Want to progress
in the third sector and campaign organising?
OATS will not shrink from seeking accountability or champi-
oning the weak. So this omelette sometimes needs to break
a few eggs. But we must be doing something right. This
week alone has seen communities as far away as West York-
shire including community Police officers asking about our
grass roots and community projects.
Burke once said: “The
only thing necessary
for the triumph of evil
is that good men
should do nothing.”

Employability ...our short training workshops coming soon. Two day, suck it and see styled soft training
workshops. Designed to give an insight and flavour, to boost confidence in small steps towards real em-
ployment prospects and realistic aspirations. We will mentor and focus on the disadvantaged and hardest
to reach. A special program of how to work from home, or modest skill set employment ideas will be
helped to become a reality for some. Others we will be relentless in helping you seek out employers will-
ing to give genuine integrated employment opportunities to Disabled, NEETS and others that just need to
be given a chance. We still need access to more funding for some candidates. Maybe you have access
to funding but need more bums on seats? Well, we have candidates and or can reach out to find them.
But please note, we are a ’small charity’ it needs to be a collaborative effort from different organisations
and long term help and programs….but it all begins with simple try it sessions then guidance to success.

OATS We are first and foremost a
COMMUNITY TRAINING PROVIDER (Not for profit)
„Workless not useless‟
Help us to help them
We are still actively seeking collaborations, Funding, volun-
teers and new team members, with skill sets in Mentoring,
Assessing, Quality Assuring and Motivating those furthest
from employability... Can you give a few hours a week?
In an effort to make our local community’s market more Disabled friendly we jointly
tackle an old art deco public/disabled toilet….OMG!.......But the biggest shock? Was
how many individuals and businesses were prepared to help us with their own pennies
or sweat. Brilliant and so encouraging. Sadly how little help from our own councils
(except the environments department) and businesses that have benefitted by millions
£££s in building contracts from our councils tax payers. (Grrrr makes my blood boil).
We will finish it and run it properly and safely, for everyone’s benefit but mostly our
disabled. We are halfway there, but need more materials and trades help?
Can you give materials or help us maybe?
Smile ???
Even Jim’s daunted by this project
It was derelict, vandalised, full of
dumped fridges and beer barrels???
Light bulb moment Hmmm!!!

Inch by inch we slowly tame it….community spirit and projects at their best
OATS, WE CARE…
Its been a difficult few years of savage funding cuts and
public services, Library's, Public toilets, Care services and
most things we need or care about ….seem to go first???
Well when a community muck in and come together you
will be surprised how much you can achieve. Don’t wait
for local or national government to act...Volunteer, take a
lead, help yourself and your neighbours.
Interesting read...United Nations ...Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (articles 1 through 4 & 30)

SPACE NEEDED URGENTLY
Work in progress:
“Early signs are that the Pupil Premium has potential, but it will
take time for its full impact to become clear. As it takes the policy
forward, the Department will need to review whether spending
more in this way would allow it to close the attainment gap more
quickly. The high degree of local discretion has benefits and
costs. Some schools don‟t appropriately focus funding on disad-
vantaged pupils, and some spend funds on activities which are
not demonstrably effective.”

Scheduled Spring 2016
The government has been working to rebalance the economy away from its dependence on financial services since
2010 by empowering local communities to tailor their approach to economic development to local circumstances.
Key to this are local enterprise partnerships (LEPS) – partnerships between local authorities and business established
in 2010 following the abolition of the Regional Development Agencies. Starting in 2015, funding to LEPs has increased
significantly, and will exceed £12 billion between 2015-16 and 2021-22. Our study will consider whether the govern-
ment’s oversight of LEPs is likely to deliver value for money and how transparent and accountable LEPs are for this
funding.
Email above personnel using our contact form selecting Local services as the topic, marking it for their attention in
the subject field.
A Study to “CONSIDER ...if the LEP’s are LIKELY to deliver value for money “ ….£12 billion ?… The mind boggles

sector: implementing the
Simplification Plan
A plan by the Department for Business, Innova-
tion & Skills to reduce complexity and administra-
tive burdens in the further education and skills
sector, despite improving some processes, has
had only limited impact on providers’ costs.
