Lottie WaltersMasic Clab Meets

The Lottie Walters Music Clubheld the first meeting of the 1947-1948 season in the Recreation Hallon Friday evening, September 26,with Margaret Skinner, ClubCounselor, hostess.

Irene Spry, Club President,presided and the meeting openedby singing the Junior Hymn,Junior Collect and repeating theJunior Pledge. The Presidentwelcomed Margaret Kirk as Mu-sic Counselor, and Norma RuthWhite, Bill Franklin, Betty JeanEller, Iva Gray Eller, HenryShoaf, Fred Blackwood and Hen-ry Shoaf as new members.

Peggy Blackwood, Club Secre-tary, called the roll and eachmember responded with a con-tribution to the Edgar StillmanKelly Fund. Margaret Skinnerdiscussed the Individual RatingSheet, the plans for the year'swork, music manners, and ap-pointed the following committees:

Program: Jean Wagner, Chair-man; Dot Hodgin, Robert Mun-day, Sue Wagner and BillFrank-lin.

Publicity: Peggy McCullough,Chairman; Iva Gray Eller, DorisVeach and Peggy Cornatzer.

Mrs. C. L. IsleyIs Hostess

The Woman's Society of Chris-tian Service of the CooleemeeMethodist Church was delight-fully entertained on last Fridayevening at the home erf Mrs. C.L Isley.

The meeting was called toorder by the president, Mrs.Charles Bahnson after which animpressive devotional was con-ducted by Mrs. M. H. Ridenhour.

The missionary topic for theprogram, "The Gospel for OurGeneration," was discussed byMrs. Arnold Kirk, Mrs. S. A.Carnes and Mrs. C. W. Shepherd.During the business hour planswere completed for a Bible studyand for the Week of Prayer.

A donation of fifty dollars wasmade by the society for the or-gan fund which is being spon-sored by Mrs. Kirk's SundaySchool class.

At the conclusion of the busi-ness the hostess, assisted by Mrs.George Miller, served a deliciousdessert course with coffee andnuts to the following members:Mesdames Charles Bahnson, WillClick, S. A Carnes, J. G. Craw-ford, M. H Hoyle, Wm. A. Jen-kins, Arnold Kirk, Floyd Nail,T. C. Pegram, S. C. Phelps,Heathman Byerly, ML H. Riden-hour, C. W. Shepherd, W. R.Wants and Miss Mary Byerly.

Mrs. E. C. Tatum, president ofthe Davie County Council ofHome Demonstration Clubs forthe past two years, was hostess tothe Council meeting in her homeon Friday, October S, at 2/. 30.

Opening the meeting, Mrs.Tatum presented the gavel whichthe Davie County women won forattendance at the last DistrictMeeting at King, in June.

Following the club song, "HailClub Women," Mrs. Willard Fos-ter gave a most inspiring devo-tional. Mrs. Charlie Barnhardt,Council secretary, read the min-utes.

During the business session theProgram of Work for 1948 waspresented and, with a few cor-rections, was accepted.

The Achievement Program, atwhich time Jerusalem and Cool-eemee Clubs will be hostesses,was planned, and committeeswere appointed to work out theprogram in detail. A nominatingcommittee, consisting of MissRuth Booe, Mrs. Era andMrs. Wiley Anderson, was ap-pointed to select Council officersto serve for the next two years.

Miss Lila Charles, who has at-tended Farm and Home Week for20 years and received variouscertificates, gave a very interest-ing report at the last awtingheld in August.

On August first The Texas Oil Company was given a ISM* OR theCooleemee Service Station, which has bean operated for a groat numberof years by The Standard Oil Company end maneged by R. R. "Dick"Everhardt.

The Texas Company has painted the building inside and outside,which has greatly improved the appearance.

Mr. G. I. Patterson, distributor for the Texas Company for this districtand an experienced oil man says: The Erwin Cotton Mills Companydesires a more modern service station for the people of Cooleemee andit is the intention of the Texas Company to give it to them. We havepoured the foundation and will erect a quonset hut, which is M feat by Itfeet, and will be used for storage of Urge and batteries, and for rest ingand greasing cars. This, we believe, will give the people « "irt'rtfrnsiand this community a much needed service end an efficient service. 1*
