CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT STUDENTS ACTIVITIES AND
ACHIEVEMENT SECOND HALF OF 2018.
A) STUDENTS CHAPTER OF CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
1) Inauguration of student’s chapter of INDIAN SOCIETY OF STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS
(ISSE) was done on 20th
July 2018 by the delegate members of the society including the teacher members
and the student members. Students were also given a seminar lecture on Green Concrete by the Society
representative.
2) On 5TH
SEPTEMBER 2018, CIVIL ENGINEERING SOCIETY was inaugurated by
Prof.Zaheer Khan, Vice Principal and HOD CIVIL Dept and different committees head and members of
CES for the academic year 2018-19 were introduced.

B) Design Competitions
Students of Final year from civil engineering department took active participation in INSDAG
COMPETITION 2018 under the guidance of Dr. Ganesh Kame.The problem statement consists of
designing truss and its components for a parking building.

C) Essay Competitions
Second Year Student, Mr Maaz Qureshi won First Prize in Essay Competition at International
Conference organization by INDIA CHAPTER OF ACI on 15th
Dec 18 at St. Regis, Mumbai.
D) Students Participation in inter college events
1) Students of Final Year Engineering, Mr Bokade Mrunal, Mr Dhawan Rajjat, Mr Hankare Smitesh and
Mr Khan Farhad participated in VJTI’s Technovanza in the event “SMART CITY” on 29th
December
18.

2) Students of Final Year, Mr Kashif Paloba, Mr Shaikh Afzal, Mr Shaikh Danish and Mr Shaikh
Sufiyan presented their final year Project in Environment Drive in Lokmanya Tilak College of
Engineering, Kopar Khairane on 20th
October, 18.

E) Industrial Visits/ Site Visits
I) B.E
1) An industrial visit for BE Civil students to study the elements of SEWAGE WATER
TREATMENT PLANT and its processes at Andheri was organized by Prof. Uma Kale on 6th
AUGUST 2018 for the subject of ENVIRONMENT ENGINEERING-II. The students were shown all
the primary and secondary elements of plant and were told about the parameters of treating the sewage.
2) An industrial visit for BE Civil students to study the components of Prestessed concrete and its
process was organized by Prof. Ateeque Ur Rehmaan Khan on 6th
OCTOBER 2018 for the subject
of PRESTRESSED CONCRETE at J KUMAR INFRAPROJECTS, BKC, MUMBAI.

3) On, 17th
October 2018, Students of Elective subject Solid Waste Management, BE CIVIL visited
the Ramky Mumbai Waste Management Ltd.,Taloja, under the guidance of Prof. Uma Kale and
Prof. Rabia Sameen to study the Hazardous Waste Disposal facility.
II) T.E
1) Students of T.E Civil visited the GODREJ’S RMC PLANT at Vikhroli under the guidance
of Dr.Shagufta Sayed and Prof.Ashutosh Dabli for the subject Advanced concrete technology on
21st July 2018.Students were imparted knowledge about the manufacturing process of concrete and
the recycled concrete block work.

F) Expert lecture/ Seminars
I) B.E
1) An expert lecture on “Understanding BIM and its benefits for Construction
Engineering” software was delivered for BE CIVIL Students by our Alumni Er.Prathamesh
Bagare (BIM trainer at Grey edge) under the guidance of Dr.Shagufta Sayed on 30th
August 2018.
Through this lecture students came to know about the importance of BIM software in the real
practical application and also in their final year projects.
2) A seminar on “Role of a civil engineer for a sustainable tomorrow” was given by
Er.Abdul Moeed Chaudhary (Sr Engineer at Conserve Consultant Pvt limited.) for the BE CIVIL
Students on 31st August 2018 under the guidance of Dr.Shagufta Sayed. All the basic functions,
commands and design of software Ecotectv5 for sustainable structure was taught to the students.

3) An expert lecture on “BUILT IN ENVIRONMENT” was conducted on 12th
October 2018 by
Mr Yogesh Kumar from RICS, Mumbai.
II) T.E
1) An expert lecture on “Rain Water Harvesting” was delivered for TE CIVIL Students by our
Alumni Er.Sayed Khalid under the guidance of Prof. Rabia Sameen on 28th
September 2018.
Through this lecture students came to know about the importance of Rain water Harvesting and the
benefits of using this water for domestic purposes.
2) An expert lecture on “IMPORTANCE OF INTERNSHIP” was taken by our Alumni Er.Sahil
Khan on 28th
August 2018 for Students of Third Year Engineering to impart knowledge about the
advantages and need of internships in Practical world.

3) An expert lecture on “Advancement in concrete Technology” was delivered by Er Ms.Nagma
Shiraz Hajianee (Deputy manager)and Er Ms.Gayatri Sanjay Joshi (Assistant manager) from
ACC limited. under the guidance of Dr.Shagufta sayed on 3rd
August 2018. All the new techniques
and processes were put in front of students from the company representatives.

G) Departmental Newsletter/ Magazine
The Editorial Board of Civil Engineering Society E-launched “TAMEER” The newsletter of Civil
Engineering Department on 19th
October,2018.
H) Departmental Events
1) TECHNOPHILIA V.1.0
Students of TE CIVIL organized Technophilia V1.0 (technical events organized under CES) on 4th
October 2018 at Institute level in which there were events like, Poster making, Techical Quiz, Techical hunt,
Photography.

2) ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING I Mini Project Exhibition 2018
An exhibition was organized on 6th
October 2018 under the guidance of Prof. Rabia Sameen for the
subject Environmental Engineering I.
Prof. Zaheer Khan,Vice Principal and HOD-Civil, inaugurated the event.
All the students of Third Year Civil Engineering presented Mini Projects to faculties and their
parents for which they have worked during the Semester.

I) INTERNSHIP PROGRAMMES AND TRAININGS:
1) Internship training programme was provided to students of BE CIVIL engineering students by
MMRC’s ongoing Metro development project in Mumbai city. Students received knowledge
about practical applications of prestressed concrete, working of Tunnel Boring Machine,etc. Students
also received the certificate for the same after submitting the reports,

K) Social Activities
The Civil Engineering Society every year organizes the Clean up Drive event at Girgaum
Chowpatty after the day of Ganesh visarjan (23rd
September 2018). This year also students from all
departments took part and made this event successful.
