    4:00-5:30pm ClaireColebrookEdwinErleSparksProfessorofEnglish,Philosophy,andWomen's,Gender,andSexualityStudiesPennStateUniversityThislectureexplorestheconceptsofextinctionandpost-apocalypseinculturalproductionandcinema.Itmightseemalltooobviousthatpost-apocalypticcinemaisanexpressionofendtimes-thatourdimawarenessofthesixthmassextinctionexpressesitselfinawholeseriesofnarrativesofcollapse,threatandannihilation.Climatechangeisbutoneofmanymotifswithinthegenreofthepost-apocalyptic,oftenaccompaniedbyotherimaginedcatastrophessuchasviralpandemic,alieninvasion,ortechnologicaldystopia.Despitethismanifestcoupling,Iwillarguethatthepost-apocalypticimaginaryprecludesanypossibilityofanethicsofextinction,andisperhapsbetterthoughtofasahyper-humanistreactionformation.
