Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager
Welcome to the installation of your new software from Festo Didactic. This quick start guide is designed to help make installation easier.
Inserting the data storage medium First of all, insert the data storage medium in the appropriate disk drive. Many packages
can now be installed using multilingual versions, which in some cases even enables you to
switch languages while the system is running. However, this results in data volumes
which can frequently only be made available on a DVD, if there’s not enough space on a
CD-ROM.
Installation Log on to the computer with administrative rights and run the executable Setup-CRM-xxx-2.5.xx.EXE file in the home folder of the data storage medium. You’ll then be guided
through the installation process step by step.
Licensing The software packages are generally supplied with a licensing procedure that places the
purchased licenses at your disposal.
System requirements The following system requirements must be fulfilled in order to use the Classroom
Managers / Tec2Screen® Manager:
• Windows operating system Windows 2000 Server (web edition) or higher
• Recommended: Windows operating system Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher
• A Windows operating system Windows 7 or higher is sufficient for the Tec2Screen®
Manager.
• Administrator rights are mandatory for installation. • In addition to the Classroom Manager, several free open-source components must
also be installed. These are supplied as part of the installation bundle (Apache 2.x,
MySQL 4.x or 5.x, PHP 4.x, Zend Optimizer). • For standard installation, the required ports are ports 80 (Apache) and 3306 (MySQL).
These ports may not be used by any other programs or services.
• The hardware should be an Intel/AMD x86 or x86-64 platform. There are no minimum
requirements for the CPU, memory or hard drive.

Note regarding the Tec2Screen® Manager The free Tec2Screen® Manager is a highly condensed version of the Classroom
Manager, with which you can conveniently load courses and simulations to your
Tec2Screen®. The screenshots shown here may differ from the Tec2Screen® Manager.
A maximum of 20 users can be set up for the Tec2Screen® Manager, and no more than
20 users can work simultaneously with the Tec2Screen®.
Installing the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager The Classroom Manager is generally made available for installation on a CD or DVD.
The free Tec2Screen® Manager can be downloaded here:

Note Please note that you must have administrator rights in order to install the Classroom
Manager.
1. Run the Setup-CRM-xxx-2.5.xx.EXE file on the installation CD.
Note Please note that you have to run the setup file as an administrator (context menu)
when installing the program to Windows Vista, or to Windows Server 2008 or a later
version of Windows Server.
2. Select the desired installation language.
3. Click Next in order to start installation.

4. Accept the license agreement and then continue by clicking Next.
5. Use the Browse function in order to select the target directory where the Classroom
Manager will be installed.
Note Please note that in the case of an update within the same version number (e.g. update
from version 2.5.10 to 2.5.14), the previously installed version of the Classroom
Managers / Tec2Screen® Managers will have to be overwritten.
Two installations of the Classroom Manager cannot be run on a single PC.
6. Click Install. The setup program checks whether or not the ports are already occupied and starts
the installation.
Note Under certain circumstances, the ports may be blocked by the IP filters or the firewall.
Occupied ports must therefore first be cleared.

7. Enter the SMTP path and then click Next. If you’re using an external SMTP server you can enter its URL here, or otherwise leave
the localhost URL.
Tip The SMTP path can also be changed later on.
To do this, look for the “smtp_port” line in the following file: [HARD DISK usually
(C)]:\[INSTALL FOLDER usually (Program Files (x86))]\Classroom Manager\php\php.ini,
and enter the corresponding port here. The path to the SMTP server can be entered
directly above this line.
Then restart the CRM Apache Service.

8. Then enter the smtp_port, or leave the standard port set to 25 and continue by
clicking Next.
9. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Note If the following Windows Security Alert appears, select all three options. Click Allow access.

The Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager is then started via the browser. You’re
prompted to fully execute the install script.
10. Select the desired language for your installation.
11. Log in using the following login credentials: admin/admin, and then click Next.

12. Now enter the type of installation and continue by clicking Next.
You’re now prompted to activate the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager.
Please wait while your database is set up.

13. Enter your name, your company and the product key to the corresponding fields.
You’ll find the product key on the back of the DVD sleeve.
If you’re using the free Tec2Screen® Manager, you’ll receive your product key after
sending the completed PDF form (LizenzformularTec2Screen.pdf) to Festo Didactic.
You can download the form at:

You can activate the application at any time later on. To do this, select the following
entries from the start menu: All programs / IMS / Classroom Manager / Activation.

14. Select the type of activation.
Note If you have access to the Internet, you can activate the Classroom Manager /
Tec2Screen® Manager online.
If you don’t have access to the Internet, you can activate the Classroom Manager /
Tec2Screen® Manager by phone.
15. Click Next to complete the installation.
Note If you’ve selected the “Telephone activation” option, call the specified number and
indicate your license key. You’ll then receive an activation key with which you can
enable the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager.

Your installation has now been successfully completed.

16. Click Next to start the software.

You can now log in to the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager with the standard
superadmin login credentials: admin/admin.
These login credentials can be changed at any time by means of the user management
function.
Note You can open the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager in the browser of your
installation PC via the following URL: http://localhost/classroommanager.

Importing courses and simulations This procedure makes it possible for you to import courses and simulations (e.g.
8028121_V_1_2_1_Sensors_Through-beam_sensor.zip) from the DVD to the Classroom
Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager.
1. Open the Administration window.
1. Click Import. 2. Select the ZIP file for the respective course from the DVD
(e.g. 8028121_V_1_2_1_Sensors_Through-beam_sensor.zip).
3. Click Start import.

Wait until the Course imported message appears. The course has now been imported.
Repeat these steps until all of the courses and simulations have been imported from the
DVD to the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager.
Storing WBTs as training material Individual WBTs must be saved in the Classroom Manager with the training material
administration function as “SCORM WBT”, for example the following included WBTs:
• WBT CRM for administrators
• WBT CRM for tutors
• WBT CRM for learners
The WBTs differ from the Tec2Screen® courses in that they are not courses themselves,
but can be added to courses. Tec2Screen® courses and Tec2Screen® simulations, which
can be imported by means of the course administration function, are already complete
courses.

Please proceed as follows: 1. Click the administration symbol on the right side -> Training materials -> New ->
SCORM-WBT -> Upload.
2. Then click Course -> New in course administration, enter a course title and save the
course.
3. The WBT then has to be assigned to this course via the Structure tab. The WBT thus
becomes a course. You can combine several WBTs into a course.
4. Then set up new users or add existing users to the course, who will participate in it, as
described below.
A more detailed explanation can be found in the manual for authors and administrators.
Adding new users and assigning courses New users can be added and existing users can be edited in the user management
window.
The maximum number of users depends on the license you’ve purchased. In the case of
the Tec2Screen® Manager, the number of users is limited to 20.
The roles and the rights of the users are also defined in this window by activating the
corresponding checkboxes (see the manual for authors and administrators – for the
Classroom Manager only).
Click Management (1) and then User (2). Then click New (3) in order to add a new user.
After entering all of the user’s data, click Save user.

Courses can then be assigned to the user in the Courses tab. Select the desired courses
(1) and then click Add (2).

The newly added user can now log in to the Classroom Manager / Tec2Screen® Manager
and open courses and simulations.

Manuals Manuals for the administrator, the tutor and the learners are included in the Classroom
Manager.
Note No further manuals are available for the Tec2Screen® Manager.
