CANCER SURVIVORS
CLIFTON PARK - The Ameri-can Cancer Society is seek-ing cancer survivors to par-ticipate in 2014 Relay For Life. The Shenendehowa Community 2014 Relay For Life will be held at the Shenedehowa High School Track in Clifton Park from Friday, June 13th, 7pm to Saturday June 14th, 7am. All cancer survivors and caregivers are honored guest as the Relay starts with a Survivors Lap to celebrate the courage that the survivors and their families sustain in their livers. After the sun sets, The Remember Ceremony with hundreds of lumi-naria lights the track to remember those we lost to cancer and honor those fighting cancer and those who have won. At 11pm is the Fight Back Ceremony. All three ceremonies are beautiful and very moving. There will be various activities planned for the entire night. Registration for survivors, care-givers and the public will begin at 6pm. WHERE IN THE WORLD IS
USS SLATER?CAPITAL DISTRICT - A lot of people have been asking this question. To answer, USS SLATER is at Caddell Dry Dock and Repair in Staten Island. Typically, the ship is open to the public in Albany near the beginning of April. This season, after several years of fundraising, the ship has been taken to drydock for repairs to her hull. Drydock-ing is the periodic mainte-nance necessary to maintain the part of USS SLATERs hull that is underwater. Its been over 20 years since the ship has been in drydock, so this project is due. Drydocking is being funded by private individuals and foundations. No government funding is being used for this project. In fact, the Destroyer Es-cort Historical Museum, the non-profit organization that owns and maintains USS SLATER, receives no regu-lar Federal, State, or local government funding. When the drydocking is complete, the USS SLATER will return to Albany and will open to the public. This is expected to be sometime in late May or early June. However, that may change pending un-foreseen circumstances or weather issues. Public hours for the USS SLATER after the return to Albany will be Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ad-mission is charged. Call 431-1943 for additional informa-tion or visit the website at www.ussslater.org. Keep up to date with USS SLATERs progress at www.facebook.com/USS.Slater.
