Making a difference for children!
École John Wilson Elementary Enrichir la vie des enfants!
A Fabulous ÉJWES 2013-2014 School Year
Comes to a Close
I would like to take this time to send a huge thank you to all parents, community
members, students and staff for a fantastic year that has been filled with so many
wonderful moments made possible because of your commitment to the children of
Innisfail. I continue to be greatly impressed with the quality of teaching and learning, the
level of art and music programming, the many school-wide events/field trips that enhance
student programming at ÉJWES. I am also so impressed by the amount of volunteer
hours that are present at École John Wilson Elementary School. Each of these things
takes a great deal of time and commitment by many adults who gladly give their best to
our students each and every day. The children at our school are truly blessed because of
all that you do, and I have been blessed as a principal to be part of such a great school
community focused on the best for children's learning and growth.
It does take a village to raise a child and the Innisfail community is a shining example of
how to come together for the health, happiness and education of our children.
As most of you know, I am moving onto a new position starting in August. I will be
taking on the role of Division Principal for Chinook’s Edge School Division. I need to
send a HUGE thank you for another very rewarding years as an educator. I have been
thrilled to be part of the ÉJWES school community and will truly miss the students, staff,
families and community very much.
Mr. Jason Drent is the new principal for ÉJWES starting June 30th. Jason is an incredible
educator who will bring great leadership to our school.
Have a safe, fun-filled summer.
Respectfully,
Jackie Taylor - Principal
Reflecting on a great year at Chinook’s Edge A Message from the Superintendent
With the end of this school year on the horizon, we can look back with pride on another year
of accomplishment and meaningful learning in Chinook’s Edge!
Our students have worked hard, and have earned recognition and appreciation from many
groups for their efforts. Students throughout the division won prestigious awards for fine arts,
academic, athletic, humanitarian and environmental work this year. They have studied and
honed their skills, which resulted in above provincial-average achievement test scores in many
instances. More of our students are completing high school than ever before, which puts them
in a far greater position to continue achieving throughout their lives.
Our teachers and staff have worked hard to create the quality learning environments that
support each of our students towards success. Our entire staff is devoted to the children we
serve and are working hard to provide a rich and engaging educational experience. Along with
our trustees, parents, families, volunteers, neighbours and community partners, we have
shared an outstanding year together. I look forward to continuing to build on this momentum
together and thank you for all your efforts in support of our students. Enjoy your summer!
Kurt Sacher
Superintendent

Many Thanks from our Staff and Students to
École John Wilson Elementary Parent Council and Families
Thank you for all of your help to fundraise in this school year through our Fall fundraiser,
Read-a-thon and hot lunches. Parent Council, and numerous volunteers, have spent endless hours to
fundraise funds that have allowed them to allocate approximately $3500.00 to each grade level to use
in significantly off-setting the costs of field trips and class activities. As well, these fundraising efforts
allowed Parent Council to bring to our students performances such as the Alberta Opera performance.
These efforts make it possible to provide all students with fantastic learning opportunities at the
school, within the community, and on excursions that greatly expand our students’ learning
opportunities.
Please see below the incredible experiences for our students this year with these fundraised dollars.
