1. Attach drawings and Tracing
By using AUTODESK_AUTOCAD, “Insert” > “Attach” or just drag the plan drawing into the view
pot.
‘Scale’ (SC) the plan drawing using door width as ‘Reference’(R)
Using different layers/colours to drawing different components
1. Rotation Line as reference
Use 2 lines as reference of rotation all the time to rotate the 2 rectangle of the building.
There must be a meet point for the 2 lines in order to have an accurate rotation.
‘Rotate (Ro)’ > select the meet point > ‘Reference (R)’.
2. Ground Floor Plan as reference for 1st Floor Plan
Place the ground floor plan drawing on the proper location of the 1st floor plan drawing as a
reference in order to provide accurate stacking or 2 levels.
Make sure the staircase is workable.
Using one colour only for reference line
3. AutoCAD to Rhinoceros
After completion of AutoCAD drawings, save it as older version of AutoCAD format then
only import to Rhinoceros.
Open Rhinoceros > “Import” > change Files of type to ‘*.dwg’ format and open the CAD
4. Form the Surface and Extrude
Using the Surface tool ‘Surface to Planar Curve’ to form a surface for every components.
Command ‘ExtrudeSrf’ to extrude the surface like wall, doors, columns etc.
Key in the height of the surface that have to be extruded.
*You can drag the tools that you usually use on the top bar for convenience propose.
5. Produce and Clone the Cylinder Wooden Wall
I used the ‘Circle: Diameter’ to form the cylinder wood curve then ‘Surface to Planar Curve’ to draw
surface then ‘ExtrudeSrf” and key in the height.
Close the cylinder surface using command Cap.
Ctrl+C > Ctrl+V > move the clone object to the proper position.
Or the most effective way is to Copy the objects and place it.
By using Ortho and Osnap to get a precise and correct position. Normally I will Osnap ‘End’, ‘Near’,
‘Mid’ and ‘Perp’.
6. … (Progressing)
7. The Concrete Fillet Surface
You can draw an ‘L’ shape curve and using the function ‘Arc’ to form the curvy ‘L’ curve. Then
Trim the sharp corner that no needed anymore.
I will use the faster step that is using the function ‘Fillet Curve’.
Command Offset to create a smaller inner ‘L’ so that we can form the surface. Offset it using the
wall thickness size.
8. Arranging the Wooden Cylinder on Track
Offset again the curvy ‘L’ to create a track.
Osnap Mid the circle surface, paste and place it on the track.
Command Rotate and with reference point at the bottom of circle, then rotate its top part according to
the track curve.
9. … (Progressing)
10. The Roof
Draw a Line connect the shortest and longest wood of façade.
After Copy and arrange the circle surface in a row, ExtrudeSrf them Osnap Perp to the line to create
the wooden cylinder from shorter to longer length.
Remember to Cap all those cylinder wood after done extruding.
11. …(Progressing)
12. The ‘U shape’
Command Mirror the curvy ‘L’ to form a C shape.
Move until the ‘C’ shape height is same as the elevation/section of the building.
13. …(progressing)
14. Combine the Floors
Finally Move the 1st floor onto the ground floor.
