Dear Parents and Community Members Welcome to Week Five
HASS Week
Congratulations to Tricia Paskett, Chantelle Cochrane and the
seven students from Wattle 1 who presented at the State
Library WA for HASS Week. This was a State conference with
teachers from the Department of Education, Catholic Schools
and Independent Schools as well as the Director of Education
ABC TV. Mrs Paskett showcased her HASS program of Suitcase
Stories and Mrs Cochrane and her students shared how they
skyped a school in Jordan during the Mothers Day afternoon to
foster cultural links with students around the world. The
organisers of the conference have congratulated all Connolly
Primary School presenters for their incredible programs.
Boys Soccer
The Boys Soccer team followed in the girls footsteps by winning the regional
championships on Friday 3rd August and did the school proud by giving it their all in the
State Champions but were defeated 3:1 after dominating the game. Congratulations
boys we are proud of you. Thank you Mr Kaluzynski for your ongoing commitment to our
school’s soccer endeavour.
State Cross Country
Thirty of our senior students participated in the State Cross Country Competition with
1900 other students at McGillivray Oval. This was a fantastic event to be a part of and
our students ran with passion and determination. I would like to congratulate each one
of them for their behaviour and participation in this event. Thank also goes to Mr Otley and Mrs Johnson for organising and supervising our students.
Bike Racks
Parents you will notice the area outside the bike racks has been roped off as a rather
large branch fell last week. For safety please keep away from this area, for students
who ride to school the bike racks have been moved to in front of the Principal’s
office. We are working with the Department of Education to ensure the area is safe
before it is reopened. Trudy Jones, Acting Principal

Students from K-6 participated in Maths Activity week last week. Classes organised a range of maths
activities in their collaborative teams and with their buddy classes. Classes were full of exciting,
engaging mathematical learning.
Cooking Club
A big thank you to Ane Bryden and Ms Brennan for coordinating this club for Year 5 and 6 students.
This week students made fresh rice paper rolls. The club will run each Friday for the remainder of the
term. A new group will commence in Term 4.
BEST Emotional Resilience Tip
Managing moods - feelings can hang around and grow into moods. Time of day, certain people, hungry,
tired - there are lots of mood drivers - what are yours? What are your child’s? How can you manage
those mood triggers?

CYBER SAFETY TIP It's important for everyone in the family to understand cyber safety because incidents of identity theft and cyberbullying can happen
to people of all ages. You might like to create a Family Online Safety Contract. ThinkUKnow and the Carly Ryan Foundation have a
blank template and example contract available at www.thinkuknow.org.au/parents-portal

Parent Workshop: Cybersafety Principles and Keeping YouTube Family-Friendly Technology and digital media are increasingly part of our and our children’s lives. 67% of primary-school aged
children (ages 6-13) and 36% of pre-schoolers (ages 3-6) have their own mobile screen-based device
(Rhodes, 2017). This parent-information session is an opportunity to discuss the role of the internet in our families
and how our children engage with online gaming, social media and mobile technologies. The session will equip you
with the knowledge and confidence to effectively engage with your child’s online experiences. The discussion will be followed by a presentation on social media website YouTube and best practice for family-
friendly content. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner (2018) found that YouTube is the social media site of
choice for young people, used by 80% of children (ages 8-12) surveyed.

OSHClub provides high quality before and
after school care, pupil free days and vacation care, for K-6
students.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We would like to remind parents/guardians our booking system has changed slightly and you now need
to book your children in 24hrs before the session start time. If it is less than the 24hrs, you will need
to ring the Centre to check if there is an available space, if possible please book in advance to
guarantee your child's place. For cancellations this has now changed to 48hrs before session start time
to avoid being charged remember to cancel 48hrs before. If you have a booking and need to cancel last
minute due to your child being sick or your plans have changed... please send a message to the Osh
phone or give us a call to let us know. Otherwise we spend time looking for them and trying to find out
where they are, this will now incur an additional fee.
If you have any suggestions for activity's we could run or do at OSH Club please let us know, also any
feedback would be great. We would also like to arrange someone from the community to come in and
talk to the children either a health nurse, dentist, fire fighter... etc. If you work in the community and
would be able to help us by coming in we would really appreciate it, this would be fantastic for the
children.
Connolly OSH Club Room can be found at the front of the school in the Banksia Block. Our opening
hours are 7:00am - 9:00am and 2:50pm - 6:00pm. We offer breakfast until 8:00am and we also provide
an afternoon snack with fresh fruit for after school care. For Vacation care parent and guardians will
need to provide a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack. We provide a range of indoor and
outdoor activities suitable for all the age groups.
Please ensure your child has a hat to be able to play outside, if children don’t bring a hat they won't be
able to play outside due to our sun smart policy. Children will also have to apply sunscreen (We can help
the younger ones). We do supply the sunscreen, your also welcome to bring your own if you would prefer
or have a medical reason for doing so. Hats and sunscreen are to be worn all year round.
Any questions you may have or if you would like any additional information please give us a call or pop in
and see us.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
