Consultation Stage 1 FeedbackEast Coast Main Line Level Crossing Closure Feasibility Study
The new highway bridge should be constructed to the south of the existing road, to minimise impact on residential properties
A footpath should be provided to ensure pedestrians can use the bridge safely
Access to Sapphire Lakes and farmland must be retained
A roadbridge to the south will cause environmental impacts to Sapphire Lakes
Retention of walking routes is desirable
It is important to retain circular routes for users on foot and on saddle from North Muskham
and Bathley villages
A footbridge should be provided to retain connectivity for pedestrians
between Bathley and North Muskham
Routing pedestrians along the Great North Road is unsafe

Our preferred option is to construct a new highway bridge to the south of the existing road. We are looking at further ways to reduce potential impacts on residents.
We have incorporated a footpath over the bridge as part of the design of our preferred option
Our preferred option provides for an access track to Sapphire Lakes and fields which would otherwise be severed by the works.
We have considered the impact of construction works and usage of the new highway bridge. An environmental impact assessment is being undertaken and appropriate mitigation will be provided where necessary.
We are speaking with the landowner about a permissive right of way to the east of the railway to provide a replacement footpath.
We have developed the design of our preferred option to include additional public rights of way to provide for circular routes and links between Norwell Lane and Bathley Lane
Based on the number of users it is not proportionate for a footbridge to be provided. However, we have developed our preferred option to include an additional pedestrian link from Bathley Lane to the Great North Road and across the roundabout, reducing the length of the diversion between the two villages
Our design incorporates existing footways which in places will be widened and improved. In addition we are considering a reduced speed limit and additional crossings over the Great North Road to help with pedestrian safety. Our proposals will be subject to road safety audits.
