3.2 TEACHING DEVELOPMENT
Leading the Ag Eng faculty group in the program’s accreditation process
Coordinating with college of engineering on the Ag Eng. program related issues.
Reviewed, in spring 2014, the Ag Engineering program curriculum after bringing an
ABET expert to stand on the program current status to prepare it for ABET accreditation.
As an Ag Eng coordinator, I have finalized with my Ag Eng colleagues the restructuring
process of the Ag. Eng program starting with de-conjugation from College of
Engineering to be implemented in 2015/2016 academic year, and to be followed then by
development of new curriculum for a proposed BioSystems Engineering degree hoping to
implement it in 2016/2017 academic year.
Followed the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) course
outlines standard for my courses outlines.
Participated in several training courses/workshop related to teaching development.
Developed the contents of my courses to cope with current findings and developments
related to the field of each course. That includes ordering new textbooks for the courses
and/or adding/removing topics to/from the courses.
Developed the teaching and laboratory sections of my courses by which I have included
advanced equipments and softwares to the lab parts.
Developed a new graduate course on CAD Applications in Irrigation Engineering. In this
course the student are not only exposed to existing irrigation related softwares but they
gain skills of writing programming codes that results in developing irrigation design
algorithms. I have also included the DripMod irrigation design software and added an
evaluation tool of the current mechanisms of designing irrigation systems in local related
governmental and non-governmental institutions.
3.3 Under/Post GRADUATE STUDENTS SUPERVISION
3.3.1 Under Graduate Supervisor
As part of my undergraduate “instrumentation and control” course, during Fall
2014, I have supervised 9 students projects related to the course that were very
successful and ready to be used as participation in coming CE forum.
Supervised an Ag. Engineering undergraduate student’s design project “Smart City” done by 7 students. Project was participated in the 6th GCC Engineering Gathering organized by College of Engineering, SQU. Spring 2014.
Currently I am advising 32 Undergraduate students (7 Ag Eng.) Co-supervised an undergraduate student’s final year research project done by 2
students on the use of remote sensing techniques in assessing soil salinization. Spring 2011.

5.4 COMPUTER SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
The followings are computer programs/softwares that I have developed:
CV – Yaseen Al-Mulla
1. DripMod. Computer software that is an upgrade of the YHGL software with the
following additional features: It can now work on any screen resolution, it can
work in any windows environment even Windows 8, data units can be converted
to/from customary or metric systems automatically based on user choice, the
original VB4 files have been upgraded to be able work on VB .net, menus are
controlled more dynamically, software interface including info messages have
been updated, and all of reported bugs have been fixed.
2. YHGL. Computer software that uses the Hydraulic Grade Line (HGL) numerical
method to design Drip/Trickle irrigation system. This software has been used as a
teaching and research tool. It can also be used as an engineering design tool for
this type of irrigation systems.
3. Emergence Model. A computer model that simulates winter wheat seedling
emergence based on the interaction between soil temperature and water potential
using the hydrothermal time taking into account planting depth as one of the
factors in the simulation. This model can be used as a teaching and research tool.
It can be incorporated into existing crop simulation software’s like CropSyst.
4. EToModel. A Visual Basic module in MS Excel that calculates reference crop
water requirement based on modified Penman-Monteith equation adapted by FAO
in a document No. 56. This module can be used in soil and water engineering
related MSc and PhD studies and research projects. In addition it has been used in
several environmental related consultancy projects.
5. SEQ-FLIP software. Computer software deals with the sequences of RNA. This
software can be used as a teaching and research tool.
6. GPA online calculator. This is java scrip that I have edited, translated and posted
on the internet for easy access for the university students to calculate their GPA
and CGPA. The edited script is now widely used in many high education related
forums.
