Leonardo Da Vinci Exhibition TourFriday 13 - Sunday 15 January 2012

The highlight of the weekend will be a visit to the “Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at theCourt of Milan” Exhibition at the National Gallery. The exhibition is the most com-plete display of Leonardo’s rare surviving paintings ever held. This unprecedentedexhibition – the first of its kind anywhere in the world – brings together sensationalinternational loans never before seen in the UK. Inspired by the recently restoredNational Gallery painting “The Virgin of the Rocks”, this exhibition focuses onLeonardo as an artist. In particular it concentrates on the work he produced as courtpainter to Duke Lodovico Sforza in Milan in the late 1480s and 1490s.

We travel from Northwich and Chester by coach and stay at the Holiday Inn RegentsPark for 2 nights (B&B). Art historian Adrian Sumner will accompany us to explainthe exhibitions we visit.

Designed to displayLeighton's priceless collection of over a thousand Islamic tiles, mostly brought back from Damascus in Syria, the interior evokes a compelling vision of the Orient. The opulence continues through the other richly decoratedinteriors, with gilded ceilings and walls lined with peacock blue tiles by the ceramic artist William De Morgan. On the first floor is Leighton's grand painting studio with its great north window, dome and apse. Finally wevisit Tate Britain, with a special exhibition of visionary, eccentric, populist and epic, John Martin. He was acontroversial but key figure in nineteenth century art.
