What Qualifications are required to apply for naturalization of the Republic of China?
1. Applicants who are 20 years old or above, have a certain level of Chinese proficiency, and have no criminal record should meet one of the following qualifications:
(1) Have lived in the Republic of China (Taiwan) for 5 consecutive years and have a certain job or property that can guarantee living standard.
(2) Have once lived in the Republic of China (Taiwan) for 10 consecutive years and have a certain job or property that can guarantee living standard.

(3) Have lived in the Republic of China (Taiwan) for 3 consecutive years after marrying a person of Taiwanese nationality.
(4) Have minor children to be raised in the Republic of China (Taiwan), have lived in the Republic of China (Taiwan) for 3 consecutive years, and have a certain job or property that can guarantee living standard.
(5) Have a father or mother of Taiwanese nationality, have lived in the Republic of China (Taiwan) for 3 consecutive years, and have a certain job or property that can guarantee living standard.
2. Applicants who are under 20 years old and unmarried and have no criminal record should meet one of the following qualifications:

Applicants should waive the original nationality within one year after receiving the naturalization certificate, and should acquire a certificate of waiver of the original nationality to protect the naturalization certificate from being revoked by the Ministry of the Interior. Before applying for naturalization, applicants should confirm whether to waive the original nationality and rights.

After acquiring a “resident certificate in Taiwan”, applicants should live in Taiwan for 1, 2 or 5 consecutive years, as the case may be. What is one-stop services for new immigrants?
1. One-stop services provide employment promotion seminars, vocational training, language courses, etc. Applicants may report personal information (name, gender, nationality, national identification number, phone number, and needs) to a household registration office in New Taipei City with the resident certificate or national identification card. Related government agencies will provide care by phone, home visit, notifications, etc., actively.
2. After an application is made with a household registration office, related government agencies will consult the applicant actively and provide a QR code for the applicant to check the progress of the application.

1. The “Learning Platform for New Immigrants” established by the Education Department, New Taipei City Government integrates courses offered by the New Taipei City Government and schools in New Taipei City. The platform enables new immigrants and family members to search for all courses and learning hours and apply online.

Can I work in Taiwan?
1. As long as you marry a national who has a household registration in the Republic of China and are approved to reside in the Republic of China, you can work in Taiwan without applying for a work permit.
2. Since September 16, 2011, the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior has marked any newly-issued foreign spouse’s alien resident certificate and Chinese spouse’s resident certificate and permanent resident certificate with “No work permit is required for the holder”.

Prior to obtaining health insurance, pregnant new immigrants are entitled to 10 prenatal examinations, including Rubella IgG testing, Prenatal Hepatitis B blood serum labeling testing( HBsAg, HBeAg) and Group B Streptococcus screening and 1 ultrasound examination. Applicants may apply with every district health centers with the household certificate, resident certificate or travel document and receive prenatal examinations at a public or private obstetrics and gynecology center with the receipt of approved allowances.

For a husband or wife with the household registered in New Taipei City, if the wife has not been pregnant with the first child, the husband and wife may have a prenatal examination after marriage. The Department of Health, New Taipei City Government provides allowances for prenatal examinations. Applicants only have to pay the registration fee and the consultation fee. The Department of Health, New Taipei City Government provides medica l a l lowances for the following three types of children, including the registration fee, partial health insurance and hospital deductibles. Type 1: Children of 0-6 years old with the household
registered in New Taipei City and approved as a low-income household by the Social Welfare Department.
2. Type 2: Children of 0-6 years old with the household registered in New Taipei City and approved as a low and medium-income household by the Social Welfare Department or qualified for Life Support for Disadvantaged Children and Youth.
3. Type 3: Children of 0-12 years old with the household registered in New Taipei City and suffering from rare
diseases recognized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare or major illness/injury within the scope of National Health Insurance approved by the National Health Insurance Administration.

If I have more than 3 births, is there any discount for the expenses on my child’s medical treatment?
In New Taipei City, more than 1,000 medical institutions offer a registration fee reduction or exemption to children of 0-6 years old with the household registered in New Taipei City and presenting the New Taipei City 3rd Child+ Card or other 3rd child+ certificates (such as copy of household registry or household registration transcript). For more information on application or questions, contact the Department of Health, New Taipei City Government at 02-22577155, ext. 2133. For newborn babies, parents may apply directly when registering the birth with a household registration office. The household registration office will issue the New Taipei City 3rd Child+ Card directly.
