Dan 3:1 “Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of
gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the
breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of
Dura, in the province of Babylon.”
! Likely occurred between 594 and 585BC.
! 60 x 6 cubits: These dimensions (90 x 9 ft) using Babylon's
Sexagesimal (base 60) numerical system were intentional,
invoking gods which they kept and worshiped in a man made
“mountain,” a ziggurat.

In context of the interpretation given to Nebuchadnezzar in
Daniel 2:
{SS 262.1} “Daniel’s interpretation was to be rejected and
forgotten; truth was to be misapplied. The symbol designed of
Heaven to unfold to men important events of the future was to be
used to hinder the knowledge God desired the world to receive.
Satan knew that truth unmixed with error is a power mighty to
save, but when used to exalt self it becomes a power for evil.”

{Lt90-1897.14} “This movement, demanding that all observe as sacred an idol sabbath, resembles the act of Nebuchadnezzar in making a golden image, and setting it up for all to worship. In the interpretation of the king’s dream, Daniel had told him, “Thou art this head of gold.” [Daniel 2:38.] The dream was given the king to show him that earthly kingdoms were not enduring, but would pass away and be followed by the kingdom of the Prince of heaven, which should fill the whole earth. But Nebuchadnezzar determined to make an image like that which he had seen, only it was to be made all of gold. This idol of gold was to be a most imposing spectacle, and was to take the place of God, and be worshiped as God.”

Dan 3:2 “Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather
together the princes, the governors, and the captains,
the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the
sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come
to the dedication of the image which
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.”
Dan 6:1 “It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred
and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom”
Rev 13:14 “…them that dwell on the earth, that they should make
an image to the beast…”
10 5/22/20
Dan 3:3 “Then the princes, the governors, and captains,
the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the
sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were
gathered together unto the dedication of the image
that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they
stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set
up.”
! This would have included King Zedekiah as well as the top
religious officials in the “province” of Palestine.
Jer 32:1-5
Eze 12:8-13
2Ki 25:6-7 “6So they took the king, and brought him up to the king
of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon him. 7And
they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the
eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried
him to Babylon.”

Dan 3:4 “Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is
commanded, O people, nations, and languages,”
Dan 4:1 “Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and
languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto
you.”
Rev 13:16 “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and
poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in
their foreheads”
! It is commanded? Wait, what is this about?
13 5/22/20
Dan 3:5 “That at what time ye hear the sound of the
cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and
all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the
golden image1 that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set
up”
! “6” instruments
Rev 18:22 “And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of
pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee”
! Imagine the surprise, the shock that this “dedication” was much more
than a celebration for the “elite” class!

{Ms24-1891.20} “By many, the Sabbath of the fourth commandment is
made void, being treated as a thing of naught, while the spurious
Sabbath, the child of the papacy, is exalted. In the place of God’s
laws are elevated the laws of the man of sin—laws that are to
be received and regarded as the wonderful golden image of
Nebuchadnezzar was by the Babylonians. Forming this great
image, Nebuchadnezzar commanded that it should receive
universal homage from all, both great and small, high and low,
rich and poor.”
! Exo 20:4-5; Rev 13:14-17; 14:9-11
15 5/22/20
{PK 512.1} “Important are the lessons to be learned from the
experience of the Hebrew youth on the plain of Dura. In this our
day, many of God’s servants, though innocent of wrongdoing, will
be given over to suffer humiliation and abuse at the hands of
those who, inspired by Satan, are filled with envy and religious
bigotry. Especially will the wrath of man be aroused against
those who hallow the Sabbath of the fourth commandment;
and at last a universal decree will denounce these as deserving
of death.”
16 5/22/20
Dan 3:6 “And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth
shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a
burning fiery furnace.”
Rev 13:15 “And he had power to give life unto the image of the
beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause
that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should
be killed.”
! The “princes” and “counsellors” from the Palestine province.
realize it’s too late! Far in the past they had compromised God’s
law and their personal integrity for position.
Mat 13:40-42 “40As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in
the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41The Son of man
shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his
kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing
and gnashing of teeth.”
17 5/22/20
18 5/22/20
Dan 3:7 “Therefore at that time, when all the people
heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut,
psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the
nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped
the golden image2 that Nebuchadnezzar the king had
set up.”
! All fell down and worshiped: This included all the Hebrew
representatives from the province of Palestine/Jerusalem

{PK 512.2} “The season of distress before God’s people will call for
a faith that will not falter. His children must make it manifest that
He is the only object of their worship, and that no consideration,
not even that of life itself, can induce them to make the least
concession to false worship. To the loyal heart the commands of
sinful, finite men will sink into insignificance beside the word of
the eternal God. Truth will be obeyed though the result be
imprisonment or exile or death.”
20 5/22/20
{GC 621.2} “The season of distress and anguish before us will require a faith that can endure weariness, delay, and hunger—a faith that will not faint though severely tried. The period of probation is granted to all to prepare for that time. Jacob prevailed because he was persevering and determined. His victory is an evidence of the power of importunate prayer. All who will lay hold of God’s promises, as he did, and be as earnest and persevering as he was, will succeed as he succeeded. Those who are unwilling to deny self, to agonize before God, to pray long and earnestly for His blessing, will not obtain it. Wrestling with God—how few know what it is! How few have ever had their souls drawn out after God with intensity of desire until every power is on the stretch. When waves of despair which no language can express sweep over the suppliant, how few cling with unyielding faith to the promises of God.”
21 5/22/20
Dan 3:8-9 “8Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans
came near, and accused the Jews. 9They spake and
said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for
ever.”
Est 3:8-9a “And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a
certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people
in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse
from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is
not for the king's profit to suffer them. 9If it please the king, let it
be written that they may be destroyed…”
22 5/22/20
{ST May 6, 1897, par. 3} “These men who thus accused the Hebrews had
been saved from death by Daniel’s appeal to the king in their
behalf, but they were envious of the three Hebrews, and were
desirous of hurting their influence; they therefore carried the
complaint to the king that these men had dared to disobey his
commands.”
Dan 6:13 “Then answered they and said before the king, That
Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah,
regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast
signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.”
23 5/22/20
{YI March 8, 1904, par. 6} “When the king was troubled in regard to his
dream, these men, with Daniel, had fasted and prayed, that they
might understand the dream. The Lord had heard their cries, and
he had given to Daniel wisdom to interpret the dream to the king.
Thus their own lives and the lives of the astrologers and
soothsayers had been saved. Now the very men who had escaped
death through the mercy of God to his servants, had been the
prime movers in securing the decree in regard to the worship
of the golden image. But the three Hebrews made no mention of
these things; they knew that a controversy with the king would
only increase his fury.”
24 5/22/20
Dan 3:10-11 “10Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that
every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet,
flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all
kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the
golden image3 11And whoso falleth not down and
worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of
a burning fiery furnace.”
! A “worship law” enforced with a death penalty
25 5/22/20
{13MR 71.1}“When Sunday is exalted and sustained by law, then
the principle that actuates the people of God will be made
manifest, as the principle of the three Hebrews was made
manifest when Nebuchadnezzar commanded them to worship the
golden image in the plain of Dura. We can see what our duty is
when the truth is overborne by falsehood.” cont.
26 5/22/20
{13MR 72.1} “The law of God cannot be made void by the law of a
nation. When the law is trampled in the dust, the sacredness of
the commandments of God will be vindicated by those who
are loyal to Him. We are to make no railing accusation against
the nations, for this would close our way so that we could not set
the light before the people. Every objection raised against the
commandments of God will make a way for the advancement
of truth, and enable its advocates to present its value before
men. There is a beauty and force in the truth that nothing can
make so apparent as opposition and persecution. When this is
revealed, many will be converted to the truth.”
27 5/22/20
Dan 3:12 “There are certain Jews whom thou hast set
over the affairs of the province of Babylon,
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O
king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy
gods, nor worship the golden image4 which thou hast
set up.”
Dan 2:49 “Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of
Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.”
28 5/22/20
Dan 3:13-14 “13Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and
fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego. Then they brought these men before the
king. 14Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is
it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not
ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image5
which I have set up?”
{ST May 6, 1897, par. 4} “Truly we can not trust in princes.”
29 5/22/20
{YI July 12, 1904, par. 3} “The lessons we may learn from the loyalty of
the Hebrew captives toward God and his law, have a direct and
vital bearing upon our experience in these last days. We have a
confession to make different from that which we have made;
and we shall have to make it under trying circumstances. In
order to impress idolaters with the power and greatness of the
living God, we, as his servants, must reveal our own reverence
for God. We must make it manifest that he is the only object of
our adoration and worship, and that no consideration, not even
the preservation of life, can induce us to make the least
concession to idolatry.”
30 5/22/20
{YI July 12, 1904, par. 4} “The vainglory and oppression seen in the course
pursued by the heathen king, Nebuchadnezzar, is being and will
continue to be manifested in our day. History will repeat itself. In this
age the test will be on the point of Sabbath observance. The heavenly
universe behold men trampling upon the law of Jehovah, making the
memorial of God, the sign between him and his commandment-keeping
people, a thing of naught, something to be despised, while a rival
sabbath is exalted as was the great golden image in the plain of Dura.
Men claiming to be Christians will call upon the world to observe this
spurious sabbath that they have made. All who refuse will be placed
under oppressive laws. This is the mystery of iniquity, the devising of
satanic agencies, carried into effect by the man of sin.”
31 5/22/20
{YI July 12, 1904, par. 5} “The people of God will enter into no
controversy with the world over this matter. They will simply
take God’s Word for their guide, and maintain their allegiance to
him whose commandments they keep.”
32 5/22/20
{YI July 12, 1904, par. 6} “When the Sabbath becomes the special point of controversy throughout Christendom, the persistent refusal of a small minority to yield to the popular demand will make them objects of universal execration. It will be urged that the few who stand in opposition to an institution of the church and a law of the state, ought not to be tolerated; that it is better for them to suffer than for whole nations to be thrown into confusion and lawlessness. This argument will appear conclusive; and against those who hallow the Sabbath of the fourth commandment will finally be issued a decree, denouncing them as deserving of the severest punishment, and giving the people liberty, after a certain time, to put them to death. Romanism in the Old World, and apostate Protestantism in the New, will pursue a similar course toward those who honor all the divine precepts.”
33 5/22/20
Dan 3:15 “Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?”
Exo 5:2 “And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.”
34 5/22/20
{PK 507.2} “As the three Hebrews stood before the king, he was
convinced that they possessed something the other wise men of
his kingdom did not have. They had been faithful in the
performance of every duty. He would give them another trial. If
only they would signify their willingness to unite with the
multitude in worshiping the image, all would be well with
them; “but if ye worship not,” he added, “ye shall be cast the
same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” Then with
his hand stretched upward in defiance, he demanded, “Who is
that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?”
35 5/22/20
Dan 3:16 “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar,
we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.”
Mat 10:19-20 “But when they deliver you up, take no thought how
or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour
what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of
your Father which speaketh in you.”
36 5/22/20
Dan 3:17-18 “17If it be so, our God whom we serve is able
to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he
will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18But if not,
be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve
thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou
hast set up.”
Jer 42:11 “Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are
afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to
save you, and to deliver you from his hand.”
37 5/22/20
{Ms15-1896.34} “The zeal of those who obey the Lord will be
increased as the world and the church unite in making void the
law. They will say with the Psalmist, “As for me I love thy
commandments above gold, yea; above fine gold.” [Psalm
119:127.] This is what will be sure to occur when the law of God
is made void by a national act. When Sunday is exalted and
sustained by law, then the principle that actuates the people of
God will be made manifest, as the principle of the three Hebrews
was made manifest when Nebuchadnezzar commanded them to
worship the golden image in the plain of Dura. We can see what
our duty is when the truth is overborne by falsehood.”
38 5/22/20
Dan 3:19 “Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and
the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and
commanded that they should heat the furnace one
seven times more than it was wont to be heated.”
! It was God’s will that the furnace be heated seven times hotter
as a demonstration of His power. This is an example of salvation
of the remnant at the second coming of Christ.
! The wicked are destroyed by God’s brilliant light, as a fire.
39 5/22/20
{ST May 6, 1897, par. 8} “When the king saw that his will was not received as the will of God, he was “full of fury,” and the form of his visage was changed against these men. Satanic attributes made his countenance appear as the countenance of a demon; and with all the force he could command, he ordered that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than its wont, and commanded the most mighty men to bind the youth, and cast them into the furnace. He felt that it required more than ordinary power to deal with these noble men. His mind was strongly impressed that something unusual would interpose in their behalf, and his strongest men were ordered to deal with them.”
40 5/22/20
Dan 3:20-21 “20And he commanded the most mighty
men that were in his army to bind Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the
burning fiery furnace. 21Then these men were bound
in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their
other garments, and were cast into the midst of the
burning fiery furnace.”
41 5/22/20
Dan 3:22-23 “22Therefore because the king's
commandment was urgent, and the furnace
exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men
that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 23And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the
burning fiery furnace.”
42 5/22/20
Dan 3:24 “Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied,
and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his
counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into
the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto
the king, True, O king.”
43 5/22/20
Dan 3:25 “He answered and said, Lo, I see four men
loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have
no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of
God.”
Isa 43:2 “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with
thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when
thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;
neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
Psa 34:7 “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them
that fear him, and delivereth them.”
44 5/22/20
{RH May 3, 1892, par. 10} “How did Nebuchadnezzar know that the form
of the fourth was like the Son of God? He had heard of the Son of
God from the Hebrew captives that were in his kingdom. They
had brought the knowledge of the living God who ruleth all
things. Then Nebuchadnezzar called forth the servants of God,
and they had not so much as the smell of fire upon them. If you
are called to go through the fiery furnace for Christ’s sake,
Jesus will be at your side.”
{21MR 59.3} “Christ came in person and walked with them through
the fire, and they received no harm.”
45 5/22/20
{PK 509.2} “How did that heathen king know what the Son of God
was like? The Hebrew captives filling positions of trust in
Babylon had in life and character represented before him the
truth. When asked for a reason of their faith, they had given it
without hesitation. Plainly and simply they had presented the
principles of righteousness, thus teaching those around them
of the God whom they worshiped. They had told of Christ, the
Redeemer to come; and in the form of the fourth in the midst
of the fire the king recognized the Son of God.”
46 5/22/20
Dan 3:26 “Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the
mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and
said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants
of the most high God, come forth, and come hither.
Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth
of the midst of the fire.”
47 5/22/20
Dan 3:27 “And the princes, governors, and captains,
and the king's counsellors, being gathered together,
saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no
power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither
were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had
passed on them.”
Heb 11:33-34 “Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought
righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Quenched the violence of fire…”
48 5/22/20
Dan 3:28 “Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said,
Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his
servants that trusted in him, and have changed the
king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they
might not serve nor worship any god, except their
own God.”
Psa 34:8 “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the
man that trusteth in him.” (see Jer 17:7)
49 5/22/20
{RH February 1, 1881, par. 20} “These three Hebrews possessed genuine
sanctification. True Christian principle will not stop to weigh
consequences. It does not ask, What will people think of me if I do
this? or how will it affect my worldly prospects if I do that? With
the most intense longing, the children of God desire to know what
he would have them do, that their works may glorify him. The
Lord has made ample provision that the heart and life of all
his followers may be controlled by divine grace, that they may
be as burning and shining lights in the world.”
50 5/22/20
{RH February 1, 1881, par. 21} “Jesus placed himself by their side in the
fiery furnace, and by the glory of his presence convinced the
proud king of Babylon that it could be no other than the Son of
God.”
51 5/22/20
Dan 3:29 “Therefore I make a decree, That every
people, nation, and language, which speak any thing
amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses
shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other
God that can deliver after this sort.”
Dan 2:5 “…ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be
made a dunghill”
Dan 6:26 “I make a decree, That in every dominion of my
kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel”
52 5/22/20
{PK 510.4} “It was right for the king to make public confession, and
to seek to exalt the God of heaven above all other gods; but in
endeavoring to force his subjects to make a similar confession of
faith and to show similar reverence, Nebuchadnezzar was
exceeding his right as a temporal sovereign. He had no more
right, either civil or moral, to threaten men with death for not
worshiping God, than he had to make the decree consigning
to the flames all who refused to worship the golden image.
God never compels the obedience of man. He leaves all free to
choose whom they will serve.”
53 5/22/20
Dan 3:30 “Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach,
and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.”
54 5/22/20
{ST May 6, 1897, par. 14-15} “History will be repeated. False religion
will be exalted. The first day of the week, a common working
day, possessing no sanctity whatever, will be set up as was the
image at Babylon. All nations and tongues and peoples will be
commanded to worship this spurious sabbath. This is Satan’s plan
to make of no account the day instituted by God, and given to the
world as a memorial of creation.
The decree enforcing the worship of this day is to go forth to all
the world. In a limited degree, it has already gone forth. In several
places the civil power is speaking with the voice of a dragon, just
as the heathen king spoke to the Hebrew captives.”
55 5/22/20
{ST May 6, 1897, par. 16} “Trial and persecution will come to all who, in obedience to the Word of God, refuse to worship this false sabbath. Force is the last resort of every false religion. At first it tries attraction, as the king of Babylon tried the power of music and outward show. If these attractions, invented by men inspired by Satan, failed to make men worship the image, the hungry flames of the furnace were ready to consume them. So it will be now. The Papacy has exercised her power to compel men to obey her, and she will continue to do so. We need the same spirit that was manifested by God’s servants in the conflict with paganism. …in the case of the three Hebrew worthies; their eye was single to the glory of God; their souls were steadfast; the power of the truth held them firmly to their allegiance to God. It is in the power of God alone that we shall be enabled to be loyal to him.”

{PK 513.1} “As in the days of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, so in the closing period of earth’s history the Lord will work mightily in behalf of those who stand steadfastly for the right. He who walked with the Hebrew worthies in the fiery furnace will be with His followers wherever they are. His abiding presence will comfort and sustain. In the midst of the time of trouble—trouble such as has not been since there was a nation—His chosen ones will stand unmoved. Satan with all the hosts of evil cannot destroy the weakest of God’s saints. Angels that excel in strength will protect them, and in their behalf Jehovah will reveal Himself as a “God of gods,” able to save to the uttermost those who have put their trust in Him.”
