MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! In the midst of our pandemic, we have been blessed to celebrate Christmas Mass in-person, and for many, live-streamed. Different this year, for sure! I am grateful to all who helped with our lovely services: Larry Wardzala who decorated the church and McDonough Hall, Sue Kaszynski, our music director, who arranged for the cantors and musicians to add joy to our gatherings, Alex Ryan for her ministry to the Family Mass Community and for organizing our
volunteers who greeted those coming to Mass and sanitized the church. There were many others at the office and those who served as liturgical ministers, all had their special roles to play helping everything come together in an organized, prayerful, and these days, safe way. THANK YOU! And, thanks to all of you who continue to support our parish with prayer and your generous stewardship. We just celebrated the Birth of the Lord and here we are now celebrating the Feast of the Holy Family! What a powerful example for us as we struggle through this pandemic, and the many challenges we are presented with in life. Mary and Joseph felt sorrow, grief, fear, uncertainty, and unease at times in their lives. Pope Francis has said, “Jesus wanted to belong to a family that experienced these hardships, so that no one would ever feel excluded from the loving closeness of God.” Whatever circumstances we may find ourselves in this Christmas season, today is a good day for us to remember the Holy Family of Jesus. Jesus, Mary and Joseph can help us, guide us, give us strength, and remind us that God has a plan for our lives. When we, like the Holy Family, conform our minds and hearts to God’s will, we can meet any challenge or difficulty with trust and confidence that God is an integral part of our family, helping us face whatever may come our way. Yes, they were holy, but they were also fully human. There in lies the good news for us. What they attained is also possible for each one of us and our families as well! Where might you need to pray with confidence today, Holy Family guide us and give us strength. With you a Christian. For you a priest. P.S.: This Friday, New Year’s Day, is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. Masses will be on Thursday evening at 4:30 p.m. and Friday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Important Information on end of year Charitable Donations
Here is the latest IRS information for federal tax year 2020. If you are not itemizing, The CARES Act allows for an additional, “above-the-line” deduction for charitable gifts made in cash of up to $300. So, if you are not itemizing on your 2020 taxes, you can claim this new deduction. If you are itemizing deductions, the adjusted gross income (AGI) limit for cash contributions was increased for individual donors. For cash contributions made in 2020, you can now elect to deduct up to 100% of your AGI (increased from 60%).

2:1 Empower Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Matching Donation Program Begins December 1 The Archdiocese of Chicago has once again secured matching donors for the Empower Illinois Scholarship Program. St. Giles will receive an additional $2 for every dollar that you contribute between December 1, 2020 and January 20, 2021 (when funds typically run out). Here's how the program works:
REGISTER with the State of Illinois at mytax.illinois.gov, unless you already have an online account. It usually takes 10-14 days to receive a letter with the ID number required to set up an account, so click on the "Sign up Now!" button in the Login box to start the process as soon as possible.
RESERVE your tax credit for the current calendar year (2020 if you donate in December and 2021 if you donate in January). Once your account is set up, log into your online account at mytax.illinois.gov (Empowerillinois.org will eventually take you to the same page.). Click on the link to your individual account under the "Accounts" tab. Then, under "I Want to" in the top right corner of the page, select "Contribute to Invest in Kids". Navigate through the form, selecting Cook County, Empower Illinois as the scholarship granting organization, and the amount you will be donating (to all schools). You will have the opportunity to select St. Giles (and any additional schools) when you make your donation. You will then receive your Contribution Authorization Certificate under your mytax.illinois.gov account correspondence tab almost immediately.
DONATE: Make your donation between December 1, 2020 and January 20, 2021 (So that we can get our 2:1 matching funds).
You will receive 75% of your donation that can be used as a tax credit on your Illinois tax bill. Last year, we were able to secure $50,000 in matching funds due to our generous donors which helped 17 children in need! Our goal this year is to secure the full $100,000 in matching funds available to each school. Contact Michele Bibbey, Business Manager at St. Giles School at [email protected] with any questions.

Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Beginning February 3, 2021
St. Giles Parish, McDonough Hall 1101 Columbian Avenue, Oak Park To register, contact 708-223-4912, or [email protected]
Dear St. Giles Parishioners:
St. Giles will once again be sponsoring a GriefShare program, a special support group for people dealing with the loss of a family member or a dear friend. We invite you to consider joining us for this program, which will begin in February of 2021.
GriefShare recovery is a Christ-centered support group where a caring group of people walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. It is designed for people grieving the death of a loved one, a family member or friend.
The program consists of 13 sessions and utilizes videos, group discussion, and a personal workbook. The focus is to assist you to begin to gain closure in your loss. Often it is hard to move on in life when dealing with the grief and emptiness that happens after a loved one dies. The program is designed to help you go through a healthy season of grieving, and then begin transitioning to a new emotional and spiritual wholeness.
If you have questions or would like more information about GriefShare, please contact us at [email protected] or call 708-223-4912. In Christ, Fr. Carl Morello, Pastor, on behalf of the St. Giles Parish Bereavement and Ministry of Care Ministries
Please consider a year-end donation to St. Giles School
As many of you are aware, at St. Giles School, we believe in-person learning is essential for the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual growth of students. In August, we welcomed over 300
preschool through 8th-grade students for in-person learning. We are so proud to have kept our doors open safely through Christmas break and are grateful for the opportunity to learn, lead and love -- together. We continue to make investments to ensure our students, teachers and staff stay safe for daily learning on campus. This includes replenishing supplies such as: hand sanitizer, wipes, thermometer batteries and disinfecting sprays; rental of portable sinks; purchase of air purifiers for each classroom and plexiglass in certain spaces to allow for socially-distanced group learning. These ongoing expenses were not budgeted for last year, but are necessary to maintain in-person learning this school year. As we celebrate the holiday season, we’re grateful for the faculty and staff at St. Giles who have dedicated themselves tirelessly to keeping our students safe and who never waver in their commitment to deliver a high-quality academic experience. Many of you know that these wonderful faculty and staff are what make St. Giles special. Unfortunately, tuition only covers about 85% of the cost to educate a student. We rely on charitable donations from many supporters committed to Catholic education to help fill this gap. Please consider a donation before December 31! Visit www.stgilesschool.org, click support and select a campaign OR send a check dated 2020 to St. Giles School, 1034 Linden Avenue, Oak Park, IL 60302, attention: Development. Thank you very much for your support and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas from St. Giles School!
The cover of this year’s St. Giles School Christmas card was designed by fourth grader, Charlotte P. Over 60 of our preschool through 8th grade students submitted beautiful drawings this year. Congratulations to Charlotte and thanks to all of our talented artists!
After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose
went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was.
--Matthew 2:9 As we celebrate this Christmas season,
we hope you and your family make joyful memories and create new special traditions.
We wish you a blessed, safe and healthy 2021!
