Why composites? Ask APIAccording to API 17B, the main potential for use of composite-based flexible pipes is in deep-water applications, where the mass reduction can be signifi-cant compared to steel-based pipes. In addition, there is potential for use of composites in high-pressure, sour-service applications. Composites offer a wide range of beneficial properties when compared to steel including:• High strength-to-mass ratio• Good fatigue resistance • Good impact resistance and toughness• Immunity to corrosion and degradation by most
oilfield chemicals and saltwater• High stiffness
Testing and qualifi cationDeepFlex FFRP has undergone collapse and crush testing at conditions that far exceed current industry operating parameters. FFRP meets or exceeds all API standards for metallic flexible pipe, eliminating corrosion and fatigue problems. January 2007 • Crossmar Aries Swan Well Test Lines - 4-inch,

abrasion of the jacket allowed seawater to corrode the metal
