THE MASS MEDIA (Article)
Communication is the process of conveying messages to others. Through newspapers, radio, television we can communicate with a large number of people. They are therefore called mass media.
The term ‘Mass Communication Media’ includes newspapers, magazines, cheap books, radio, television and the internet. They fulfil four functions.
1. They supply us with news.2. They interpret the news for us through
commentary and editorial.3. They spread culture and education.4. They provide entertainment.

The mass media are often government owned or government controlled. But some are owned and run by private agencies. The government controlled or government owned media are usually used to promote the opinions and interests of the government. Thus they provide powerful means of propaganda.
