Description
The electronic pressure indicator DPI, also known as Pressure Measuring Instrument (PMI System), is designed to measure dynamic cylinder pressures of large two- and four-stroke Diesel and gas engines.
It is a state-of-the-art MIP-system with a very convin-cing price-performance ratio. The high accuracy data collected by the DPI is essential for optimizing engines’ performance and reducing emissions. The self-explanatory handling of the Leutert PMI allows even unexperienced operators to take successful measurements in few minutes.
The following values can be monitored by using the DPI:
• Power/MIP calculation• P-Max• PV-plot• P-comp• DP (Derivative plot)• RPM
The included software allows evaluation transmitting (to superintendency), archiving, and much more with only a few clicks. Besides, the software offers the possibility for easy data sharing by e-mail, by simply pressing only one button.
The DPI is the most straightforward solution to reach optimum performance of your engine.
Measuring process
The pressure sensor is temporarily connected to the indicator valve (Thompson connection). Once the measuring series is being recorded, the some basic data can be read off the LC display of the hand-held unit. Afterwards, the data sets are saved to the internal memory and can be immediately transferred to any computer via USB “Plug’n’Play” connection for further evaluation/reporting.
Hand-held data acquisition unit
The battery powered hand-held unit is designed for a periodic monitoring of cylinder pressure, and provides important data for engine diagnostics and condition monitoring directly at the point of use.
The electronic components of the portable DPI hand-held are incorporated in a tough ABS resin (plastic) water resistant body. The figure below shows the hand-held data acquisition unit.
Digital Pressure Indicator DPI 3
Pressure sensor
The heart of the instrument is the pressure sensor. Using the latest technology its accuracy and lifetime are setting the standard. The type of quartz sensor used for the DPI has passed trials of 16,000 hours non-stop operation and is accepted world wide by all engine manufacturers. Furthermore the sensor has a calibration interval of approx. 8,000 hours.
The DPI system includes the pressure sensor displayed in the figure above which serves to determine the cylinder pressure in diesel and gas engines. It is characterized by a high level of precision and rugged design. The pressure sensor is connected to the DPI
hand-held by an armoured cable and plug.

Analyzing software
The simple, self-explanatory, and sophisticated software is saved on the internal memory of each handheld unit and has no copy limitations. This means that it is not necessary to purchase a second or even more licences for the computer(s) in the Engine Control Room and/or superintendents’ office.
Once you connect the handheld unit to the computer by USB “Plug’n’Play”, the software will automatically recognize the new measuring files for importing to the software. There is no need to install any drivers. After the new files have been imported there are different visualization modes available (pressure plot, pv plot, bar graphs, summarizing data info) which allow easy evaluation of the measuring data. The imported data can easily being exported and send by email for evaluation or storage by just one click. Future firmware and software updates are free of charge and can be done by the operator by simply copying one file.

2 Torque Measuring System TORXmeter
Description
The TORXmeter is a permanent shaft power measuring system basically designed for seagoing vessels, but may be used also for other engine-driven applications. The provided data is vital for evaluating engine performance in relation to the power consumption (burning of fuel), thus helps to improve engine efficiency and to reduce fuel costs.
The TORXmeter is easy to install and requires no electronic/electric parts on the shaft. Only two magnetic sensor belts in a distance of 1.5 to 2 m have to be installed on the shaft and works contact free. This makes the system rugged and more durable than other comparable systems.
The simple installation and calibration makes presence of a service technician unnecessary and is usually done by the vessel’s crew.
The intuitive interface of the terminal box allows easy operation, permanent display, and automatic reports of following values:
• Torque (kNm)• Shaft power (kWh)• Shaft speed (RPM)
Data transmission to vessel’s automation system can be easily done via 4-20mA outputs.
Installation of several repeater displays (engine control room, bridge) is possible.

Description
Leutert engine indicators are used on diesel engines, gas engines, air compressors, pumps, etc. A metal stylus draws a clear pressure-path diagram which records the pressure curve within the engine cylinders as influenced by the piston stroke. The recording drum can be moved by means of a string, which is pulled manually or by the engine. If the drum is driven by the engine, the diagram may be planimetered.
Our indicators are designed to cover various ranges of speed and rates of pressure-change.
It will always be advisable to operate with small diagrams as far as possible, in consideration of the oscillating masses. In doubtful cases it is suggested to forward particulars of the operating conditions, and on orders to give particulars regarding kind of engine, pressures to be measured, engine stroke and r.p.m.
The selection of the correct indicator size depends not only on the r.p.m but also on the rate of pressure rise at time unit dp/dt. If the above stated limit values are exceeded, the resulting acceleration would cause too high an indication of pressure. Size of piston and spring are selected such that the maximum natural frequency is attained. With regard to the accelerations, for best results the diagram length should be progressively reduced as the r.p.m. approaches the designed maximum of the indicator.

Description
The Digital Pressure Indicator DPI-2 measures dynamic pressures. It is especially designed to analyze large two and four stroke Diesel and gas engines. The main application area is the marine market and mobile and stationary power stations.
The DPI-2 is a powerful and easy-to-use high quality electronic engine indicator which can be characterized by its long life components. It provides the following essential engine values for analysis:
• Indicated power• Mean indicated pressure (mip)• Peak pressure (Pmax)• Minimum peak pressure (Pmin)• Average peak pressure (Pav)• Standard deviation of peak pressure (Sdev)• PV-plot• Compression pressure (P-comp)• Maximum gradient of pressure curve (dp/da)• Speed (rpm)
The measuring method of the DPI-2 is fast and simple: The pressure sensor is temporarily connected to the indicator valve (connection W27 x 1/10”). While the measuring series is being recorded, the data can be read off the LC display. After that, the data sets are saved to memory and can be transferred to the PC. The data may be evaluated and administered with the DPI software.
The DPI system works independently of the mains voltage. It uses its own integrated power supply.
An optional TDC sensor (4-stroke engine) relates the pressure curve to the crankshaft position. By using the crank angle encoder or incremental encoder on a 2-stroke engine the pressure values are measured in relation to the actual crankshaft angle.
All systems can be supplied as permanent installation for vessels or as plug-in version for service engineers. The DPI-2 is delivered in a tough waterproof carrying case.
Hand-held Data Acquisition Unit
The electronic components of the portable DPI hand-held are incorporated in a tough aluminium water resistant body. The figure below shows the hand-held data acquisition unit.
Features
• Menu controlled operation• Sufficient memory to analyze up to 32 cylinders• Measurement and display of cylinder pressure in
individual cycles or in up to 16 cycles on average• Storage of motor and measurement parameters• Selection of various filters• High sensitivity through 12-bit A/D converter• Real time clock• Integrated rechargeable batteries• Interface for PC (RS 232, adapter for USB)
