GLOBALLY PERIODICITY & FEROCITY OF DISASTERS IS INCREASING
Dramatic Rise of 151% in direct economic losses from climate related disasters -
-- Report of UNISDR 10 Oct 2018
.1. During period 1998-2017, direct economic losses were US $ 2908billion, 77% of which were due to climate related disasters.
2. During same period 7255 major disaster events were recorded, outof which 91% were due to climate related.
3. During the period 1.3 million people lost their lives and 4.4 billionpeople were injured, rendered homeless, displaced or in need foremergency assistance.
4. 563 earthquakes, including related tsunami accounted for 56% oftotal deaths ( 747,234).

WHILE ASIA AND THE PACIFIC – GLOBAL EPICENTRE OF DISASTERS
� Between 2000 and 2017 India faced more than 300 natural
disasters like earthquakes, floods, landslides, drought, extreme
weather and storms.
� More than 76,031 deaths took place.
� Cumulatively more than one billion people have suffered due to
natural disasters.
� The estimated damage sustained by India in these 19years due to these disasters amounts to US$ 79.5 billion(INR 54,81,54,88,50,000.00) – UNISDRR Report 10 Oct 18.
India ranks among the first five countries which have been hit by most
number of natural disasters.

� FICCI is involved in DRR since 2003 - has conducted 36 industrialand environmental safety and DM Conferences and mock exercises inMAH industries, all over India and sensitized over 10000 seniorexecutives from 8600 big and mid sized industries. On-site plans of allMAH industries have been facilitated
� FICCI has the expertise and experience of managing internationalprojects and funds, one such example is Millennium Alliance, whichFICCI is partnering with GoI, USAID, UKAID, World Bank ICCOFoundation, WASH & Face book.
� Due to multiple initiatives by FICCI on DRR, UNISDR recognized itspotential & made it ARISE Member on 04 August 2017.

VISION OF ARISE INDIA
� To Build the Capacity of Private Sector in India by reducingrisks on perceived disasters, in collaboration and in syncwith policies and plans of the Govt of India.
� On request, spread general awareness on disaster riskmanagement in the private sector in the neighboring SAARCand some ASEAN countries.

4. In Partnership with IIRD, Shimla, to make villages SMART(including DRR aspects)
& opening business opportunities for Pvt Sector in Rural Areas, Pilot Project
(RIEV) launched in 3226 Panchyats of HP. Its Version 2 initiated with advanced
IT platform.
a) 10 Thematic segments set up including DRR.
b) Giving employment to 15000 locals for providing services.
c) Membership likely to go upto 50000 in next 3 months
d) IIRD has won following awards so far:
i) Best Livelihood Initiative Award by CSR Times 2018
ii) Best org for Women at Workplace by UN Global Impact Network India 2019
in 2nd Gender Equality Summit 01 Mar.

5. In partnership with “Operation Resilience”, A national-
level ‘Disaster Relief Portal’ set up that reaches out to
150+ Million people online via popular outreach partners,
to crowd-source aid for response agencies, after a
disaster. During Kerala Floods, helped in evacuating 216
victims and provided relief to the tune of $150 million.
6. National level competition on Innovations in DRR being
conducted in April 2019.

7. In partnership with ADPC, Bangkok formulating Business Continuity
Plans of all PSUs in Bihar.
8. Workshop on Policy Advocacy and Capacity Building Strategies for
Managing Complex Disasters in the face of Climate Change being
planned in last week of May/first week Jun 2019 in Gangtok, Sikkim.
9. Use of Technology for finding solutions to DRR (Robotic, Virtual
Intelligence), being planned in New Delhi in Sep 2019..

10. Have plans to create business opportunities in private sector in
DRR in collaboration with Govt initiatives within India and
neighbouring countries
11.Noida and Greater Noida twin cities in NCR selected as one of 25
cities in University category for compliance of Sustainable
Development Goals. We are in touch with district authorities to
prepare the twin cities for SDG compliance.
12. Ganga River Institute - Path breaking Plasma Technology.
CONCLUSION
1. With Launch of ARISE INDIA, a platform has been created for DRR
in the Private Sector with international reach.
2. The Private Sector companies, universities, educational
institutions and organizations dealing with DRR should take
advantage of potential opportunities made available to them by
becoming its Member.
3. ARISE INDIA would go shoulder with shoulder with Govt of India
to make India disaster resilient.
