GENERAL INFORMATION
BUDGET TRAVEL
Prices are lower at the beginning of December and reach their peak around December 21st, so plan your trip accordingly. You can always visit the park earlier and then spend Christmas on the beach.
CROWDS
Crowds are the heaviest when school holidays are on, during Christmas to New Year’s timing. Expect longer lineups from attractions to restaurants at this time. One of the least crowded times is before Thanksgiving to the week before Christmas so it’s an ideal time to visit.

The Theme Parks
THE MAGIC KINGDOM
The focal point on Main Street is a towering Christmas tree but the absolute magic is on Cinderella Castle as it is adorned in more than 250,000 lights.
You’ll experience this during the fireworks show at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party where cherished Disney characters celebrate the holidays on specific nights with hot chocolate, snow flurries, fireworks and a special appearance by Santa Claus during the holiday-themed parade. You need to purchase tickets for this event.

EPCOT
Epcot is about experiencing other cultures and its Holidays Around the World celebrates them all with festive decorations and holiday music from many different nations. Each country has its own theme to highlight its unique customs. Learn about the holiday traditions of others from storytellers throughout the park: The Three Kings, Father Christmas, Papa Noel, La Befana, Julenissen and other seasonal characters from around the world. Walk through the lit archway that leads to the Showcase Plaza and you’re on your way to explore the holiday customs of other cultures.
There are also special holiday events and fireworks for Epcot: Illuminations and the Candlelight Processional.
DISNEY WORLD HOLIDAY EDITION 2012 ©
ANIMAL KINGDOM
The Animal Kingdom gets jolly around 3 p.m. every day when Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade rolls through the theme park.
Although the Animal Kingdom is all decked out in holiday decorations, it doesn’t stay open late during the holidays as sunset falls early at that time of the year and the animals need their rest. Spend time here during the day to wish your favorite animals a Happy Holiday.

HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Over the years, it’s been Christmas in Hollywood Studios well before November and December. Do you know that among films shot at the studios, "Ernest Saves Christmas" was one of them!
Apart from the decorations, the big splash at Hollywood Studios is the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. There are literally millions of dancing lights, and then animated displays and 3-D effects, all synchronized to holiday tunes while snow is falling.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on the Streets of America at Hollywood Studios theme park.
From November 9, 2012 till January 6, 2013, from dusk until the park closes, the backlot sparkles with millions of lights and three-dimensional animated displays. Synchronized to seasonal tunes, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is one of the top holiday light shows in Disney, one where wishes feel possible.
Sway to the music as Santa guides his reindeer, angels fly and carousels spin, all within a techno-colored light show. Carousels spin in multi-colored lights, trees are blanketed with glitter and building facades shimmer in the light display and even snow flurries swirl for a seasonal effect. And then, about every 10 minutes, the lights fade and then pop back dancing to a medley of holiday music.
The History The imagineer behind this light display is Jennings Osborne. Originally created on his home in Arkansas as a modest holiday gift for his daughter, the cluster of lights were added to over the years till it became quite the light show! In 1995, Santa’s elves at Walt Disney World bedazzled the streets of America at Hollywood Studios and it became the permanent home for Osborne’s display of yuletide cheer.
Disney Tip Look for the hidden Mickey’s!

Character Dining
It’s always fun to strike a pose with your favorite character, wave hello or receive one-of-a-kind autographs when you see popular characters at Disney. It’s tough chasing down autographs when you’re lining up for attractions and walking through each of the theme parks.
Where you’ll find a cast of characters in one place is by reserving a character dining experience, where you’re guaranteed to have a meet ‘n greet. A favorite trip souvenir is a signed autograph or a photograph of a big hug from a beloved character and during the holidays, the restaurants are decked out in Yuletide cheer.
Aside from a unique dining experience, character meals are an ideal opportunity to gather 5-6 autographs at once! Following are the best character dining experiences for the holidays in the various theme parks - just make sure you book early as these are popular and sell out fast.

GRAND FLORIDIAN HOTEL AND SPA
Grand Floridian Hotel Resort & Spa
For the grand dame of Disney luxury resorts, the highlight is the huge gingerbread house, literally large enough to walk into! The sweet scent of gingerbread wafts through the lobby where the 16-foot high Victorian gingerbread house sits.
It takes Disney pastry chefs, months to prepare for this house, using as much as 1,050 pounds of honey, 600 pounds of powered sugar, 800 pounds of flour, and 140 pints of egg whites and 180 pounds of apricot glaze. Its chimney even puffs out cinnamon smoke making everything smell like cookies.
There is usually a cast member outside who can answer questions about the gingerbread house, and you can also pick up a kit to make your own gingerbread house.
Have an afternoon tea here, or book dinner at Victoria & Albert’s where a full-time harpist serenades diners.

WILDERNESS LODGE
Wilderness Lodge
At the Wilderness Lodge, the focal point of the 7-story lobby are two hand-carved totem poles that rise for 55 feet toward the rooms. At Christmas time, however, it’s the Christmas tree that reaches the ceiling along with garlands twinkling with lights that are draped from each of the floors.
Sink into one of the leather armchairs in front of the massive 3-sided fireplace in the lobby, and contemplate the grandeur of the western mountains.

YACHT AND BEACH CLUB RESORT
Yacht & Beach Club
The annual holiday tradition at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort is a full-size, edible carousel. Featuring ponies made of chocolate and fondant, giant candy cane poles, handcrafted poinsettias and hand-painted portraits of beloved Disney characters, the edible display even spins just like a life-size carousel would. You’ll find the edible carousel on the Beach Club side of the resort, tantalizing guests who watch it in the lobby.
On The Yacht Club side of the resort, a train continuously loops around the large Christmas tree that is in the lobby.

Contemporary Resort
Christmas at the contemporary resort takes on a more modern theme. Although it’s still a secret as to what decorations will be like this year, in the past, rather than a large Christmas tree, the main feature here are three intertwined wreaths with twinkling lights that resemble a massive Mickey Mouse head.
Along with character meet and greets, there has also been a gingerbread Christmas tree and gingerbread cookies served in the lobby.

Polynesian
In the Polynesian resort, Christmas trees are everywhere the moment you enter the hotel from the Polynesian Monorail station entrance to the lobby itself. Poinsettias are scattered around the atrium to the lobby waterfall, and holiday wreaths and garlands adorn each entrance from 'Ohana and the Tambu Lounge to the Kona Cafe. You’ll even find wreaths draped over the Polynesian statues and at the BouTiki entrance.

Animal Kingdom Lodge
At the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Christmas takes on an African theme. Even when you leave the savannah inspired grounds to walk inside, you’ll find that garlands draped around the lobby, and the Christmas tree itself, have African inspired ornaments such as zebras, giraffes and drums.
The focal point in the lobby is the Christmas tree that rises from the bottom floor up six stories to the top floor.
During the week of Christmas, you’ll find holiday activities including a Santa meet and greets and serenading carolers.
